some people just think there cars are industuctable,
i put a video of the flooding at my work and i drove untill the water got to my tail lights on my z71 then i backed out and got the kayaks to go check out the damage being done. i was not risking it in my truck.

Normally docile, slow flowing, fish choked Bear Creek in Irving, at the height of the downpours and runoff:

Did the first guy just pull out of the parking lot? I'm amazed the car started with water that high.

As for the other guy, I bet that engine is ruined... along with the rest of the car.

not sure how they did it. i think he just got lucky.

saw some people on the roofs later from those same apartments being rescued by firefighters. think the media is doing another report on this same area tonight. it got MUCH worse than what's shown in these pics. passed through this area today & saw some news crews setting up. folks in those low lying areas were having to move their belongings out of homes to the curbs to be moved or hauled off. lots of insurance adjusters & water damage crews

The fella from Alvarado that died, there is more to the story than just him driving into a flooded creek.

The CR he was on has the road gates with a "Water Over Road" sign on each one. No one from the county closed them. Given this, I would speculate that this guy probably thought it would be safe since the gates were opened.

The other thing, at the time this happened, the Alvarado school district sent one of those automated phone calls stating 'due to high waters and flooding, school is closing immediately. come get your kid'. I think this was plain dumb on their part. Why in the world would the district get all of these people out on the roads during the worst part of the flooding when the schools were fine, no flooding at all? Im not sure if this guy was on his way to the schools, if he thought the road was safe because the gates were open but I learned two lessons... first, if theres a flash flood warning, ill try my hand at just staying home. Second, dont depend on the county to close those gates that go across the road.
