From some of the other post I have read recently, seems like it's time to switch to fishing with shad for Hybrids on LL. Is it better to sit on anchor or drift and are the rigs the same as for Striper fishing?

TIA

Me too. I'd really appreciate any tips offered up. Everything from the rig to use to a suggested cast net.

I'm tired of looking at them ALL THE TIME on the finder and not being able to get them to bite.

Anybody fish for them at night?

Snake

I would recommend a 7ft net from Wally World or academy there are shad around the cuts and left of two poles in the am.
Make sure you have some shad saver in your tank and make sure it is round or they will not last..
With the lake water so hot you need to make sure the water has a good high powered pump or they will die.Not as much salt needed as Texoma from
Lewisville.
The marinas are also pretty easy to catch shad in
and fish the drop offs...............

Good luck

I hope this helps

It does and I appreciate it. Most of what I read said to drift them weightless? Is that a good approach on LL?

On Belton, I use a 1 oz egg sinker above a swivel and a 6 foot leader.

Thanks Trent. I was wondering if the shad were still at Twin Poles.

I have been slab fishing alot but when I do live
bait fish I use a smaller weight 1/4 or 1/2 oz so the shad can move but get them on the bottom.
I use a about a 2ft leader below the weight.
If I were fishing in deeper lake Like Texoma where you need to get the bait down to 40 ft or so then a big weight makes sense 1oz-2oz.
Catfish the same thing!

Lewisville is a shallow lake and fishing on
humps and flats I have found the smaller
weight works a little better because the fish
run away from the boat and not down,,,

Not a 100 bait guy but my opinion

Just a side to the bait fishing rig; a small red/blood colored bead above the barrel swivel helps protect the knot from the weight. I also think the red might draw a curious look from feeding fish.

May I asked why do you need such a long leader.. Is it more productive being that long?

Sounds about like a Carolina Rig. That I can handle.

We rode out the stormy conditions today rather than racing everybody to the ramp and it paid off. Lake got real nice once the wind calmed down. Cloudy and really pleasant. On a slow cruise back in we stumbled across a school in front of Tower Bay. Good mix of Hybrids and Sandies of all sizes. Caught a few 16"ish Hybrids and lost one over right at the boat. Burning slabs just under the surface did the trick. Don't be shy about sticking the rod tip in the water and reeling as fast as you can.

Thanks for all the tips!

Snake

It was actually a good time. Pretty wild watching that storm come in . Snake and I were inside the cove opposite the party cove when we looked at the dam and saw it coming in. It came on so fast we could not get away in time, so we just rode the storm out for about an hour. The waves were hitting the side of the boat and soaking the girls down, they got a kick out of it. The school we found was just outside of the tires at TB, I didnt have a rig set up so I started throwing my Hellpet rig and caught some nice hybrids, It was a blast.

Light weights and long leaders are OK if you're using 1 or 2 poles. More than that and you're asking for a lot of tangles. We fish 6-8 poles and use a 2 oz weight and 2-3 ft leader. When the hybrids get finicky we drop down to a 10 lb leader or even 8 lb. Just remember to lighten your drag.
