Fish the city park. I was there a month ago. Whacky rigged finesse worms and senkos. Even a frog produced one. Didn't fish it long and was impressed. Lots of vegetation in the Sabinal.

I grew up south of there and I agree with hoghunter. Also the Nueces River has some good spots by Uvalde and if you have some extra time Amistad isn't too terribly far. Several good river spots with an hours + drive.
