Had the extended family up for the holiday and grand kids wanted to go fishing. Got up early AM Monday and started out. First thing was motor trouble, had to use the trolling motor to get back to the boat slip. Finally got someone else's fishing line untangled from the prop, and headed back out.

Kids wanted catfish, so headed to my little spot. Lots of good nibbles and bait stealing, then, finally, grandson caught a good sized channel cat, about 3-4 pounds.

Wind picked up and waves made it hard to keep the anchor in, so we moved around the lake. Caught another small cat - turned the aerator back on after losing some water splashing out of the tank from white-capping lake turmoil. Someone (ummm, me) got busy bating lines for the kids, and forgot two really important things. 1) Close tank lid 2) Turn Aerator off before water reaches top of tank.

Next thing you know, we have two grandsons yelling "The Fish !!...The Fish !!" I looked over just in time to see that big catfish WALKING from the tank, across the top and to edge of the bow, and then jumping off into the water. Yes, he kind of wiggled and kind of walked using his fins..everyone was so surprised, that we all just froze in horror.

I felt SO bad for my grandson, because he had never caught much of anything and I lost his fish for him. I swear, that fish looked us all in the eye before he jumped to his freedom.

Later we had a good laugh, and we will always remember the ONE THAT WALKED AWAY!!

I might just have to post this in the Cat-fishing forum as well.

We did have a great time - wish we would have been able to get pics though, because grandson's friends will probably never believe his fish story- LOL.

Had something similar happen over the weekend. I had two bass in the live well with some minnows to let my kids watch the fish. I watch one of bass rear back and chase a minnow and flew right out the livewell back into the lake. It happened really fast and I planned on tossing them back anyways.
