Had 5 guests at the lake house this am to take fishing on RC. Half way to the flats, motor dies while doing 30. Was able to start, continuing to boat show, engine dies again. Checked battery connections, started and continued to fishing...boat dies again doing 25...1/2 tank of gas, all gauges look good.

Decided to bag it and head home...engine dies every 2-3 minutes. Restarted each time and did make it back to the boathouse.

Gas filter? Electrical?

Mercruiser 190HP In/Out

Thanks for your help!

Fuel filter would be a good place to start. Could be fuel restriction when running due to stopped up fuel filter.

I just had a similar issue and it was the VRO pump on mine. Hopefully it isn't the same for you, because it isn't a cheap fix. Could also be a powerpack.

Was the motor over heating? That happened to me when I sucked up some mud and messed the water pump up when I was at Millwood last year on the drawdown. New water pump, and good as new.

That Mercrusier may be equipted with a low oil pressure switch. That switch will turn off the electric fuel pump. As soon as the engine dies, and everything goes into "start mode" It will fire right back up. That would be the 1st place I would look. Normally a fuel filter would not allow you to restart so quickly. And a plugged fuel tank vent would cause you to slow down until the engine dies, not die all at once. So something is causing it to die like someone has turned off the switch,,,,has to be elecric fuel pump related..........

All gauges were normal (oil pressure, temp). I did not check the oil level however. Guess I better do that.

The engine will start right up, and you can rev it, which is why I didn't think it was a gas issue.

Oil level does not have to be low for the sensor to malfunction. And if it does, it shuts off the electric fuel pump. The engine runs out of gas. Then it takes about 10 seconds for the pump to refill the carb when you try to restart it.
