This link takes you to one of my photobucket montages of fish i have caught while fishing the full moons from April through September over the past few years. 99% were caught at night, and LATE at night, between 9 PM and 1AM the next morning. ALL were caught on tube jigs(with UNPAINTED heads),as you can see the tube jigs clearly in many of the pics; except for a very few that you can see the rooster tail hung on the lip! It is a variety of fish, including bluegills, sunfish, warmouths, bullheads, black bass, and Tilapia. All caught from the bank, on ultrlight gear! On a pic or two i have tape measures, with twin greenies at exactly 9 inches. Excellent eating one and all, not one bullhead or black was kept, and only a couple of Tilapia were kept for grilling/blackening purposes. Pure culinary research!

My favorite time to hunt sunfish of all varieties is the zenith of the full moon periods, late spring to early fall, and as late at night as i can get at em! They are nesting, and extremely protective/aggressive! Best sizes come very late at night! And it's way cooler than in the daytime. BTW, the colors on some of these fish are exactly as you see them on your screen, no re-touching of any sort was done, and some are truly amazing!

Those are a a bunch of nice fish. I haven't done much night fishing for sunfish, but may have to give it a shot. Any colors work better than others at night?

Not much is better than catching bream on topwater at night with the full moon! Wooooo Hoooooo!!! I use F3's & F5's Rapala minnows and Rebel Bumble Bugs. I like fluorescent red, gold, bleeding copper flash and hot steel for the Raps and the bee and hornet patterns in the bumble bugs. If they stop hitting on the hard baits I swith to Southern Pro hot grubs and triple tip grubs. I use the brightest colors for the hot grubs like the All American, fire & ice shad and halloween. For the triple tips I use anything with black in it.

I do not catch fish when they are nesting, its sort of like shooting fish in a bucket..... not to mention that it disturbs the hatching.

As prolific as these things are and as often as they nest(spawn), doesn't put much of a dent in the proceedings! And if catching them in pitch dark circumstances, where many times the only one that can clearly see what's going on is the fish, is comparable to shooting fish in a bucket; well, let's just say i beg to differ!

Nature it's self kills more fish than every angler put together. (Other predator fish, low oxygen content, water evaporation, weather conditions, etc) Every study that has been done has supported this. Besides there are a lot of anglers such as myself that catch and release. I do however like to keep a few for dinner.

For many species, I agree with you b-a f.

Humankind are responsible for the precipitous decline of bluefin tuna, many shark species, cod, and other fish.

Bluegill, crappie, bass, catfish, etc. can be negatively impacted by fishing pressure on some smaller waters, and
even more negatively impacted by pollution, construction, and other human activities.

The advent of the Catch and Release ethic has made an positive impact on species' numbers.

That is what they said about the passenger pigeon and the buffalo. There is no such thing as an ENDLESS supply of anything! Wise up.

I never said it was ENDLESS! Besides, i seldom keep many, if any, fish! Just ask any of the MANY TFF'ERS that I have fished with! If we kept em all, I'd need a Refrigerated warehouse like the old Alford's on Cadiz. it was at least a block long!

Wow. talk about putting words in my mouth! endless! Show me where i said that!

But the sad fact is that in a pond as small as the one i caught ALL the fish in the pics on that album on photobucket, there HAS to be some harvesting done to keep the population healthy.

But, i can see i am spitting into the wind, so, in the words of one of my other Internet buddies, "MOVING ON, . . "

The reason there is so many laws is that the greedy nature of most homo sapiens require laws to make them do the right thing. But some laws come too late and gone is forever. We do not shoot doves, ducks and geese of their nest for a reason. We should show proper ethics(sportsmanship) and not catch fish when they are nesting!!!!!!! If anyone is such a poor fisherman that they can only catch fish off their nest then they should consider changing sports.... maybe shooting fish in a bucket would be more you style....? But only if you eat the fish you shoot.

So you wanna put the bass fishing business out of business? Many tourneys are held during the spawn, because that is when the fish are biggest. And if you have NEVER ( seriously doubt that!), tried to con a female off a nest to take an artificial bait, and experienced the frustration, as it could take literally an hour or more to get it to bite, or you may give up, because it will pay attention to NOTHING.

I catch more fish in the dead of winter, when NOTHING is spawning, between November and the end of February, than most people catch in an entire year! So you wanna question my fishing skills, just bring it, bro! Anytime, anywhere, with any bait, for any species! But truth be told, I prefer the dead of winter, with a wind chill close to zero, overcast skies with a hint of sleet or snow, and a crisp north wind! My best catches of quality fish happen then! Ask anyone that knows me! or better yet, check the archives rt here on the forum! It is well documented, complete with pics.

And even then, the vast majority is catch and release, after their pictures have been taken!

I wonder if that law that says it's illegal to harass a legal fisherman, would apply to tree hugging internet idiots. I think someone who comes on a fishing forum and cry about the poor fishies being caught, has a serous mental issue and deserves all the grief he gets for being an idiot.
