Scored me a couple of Cannons and now need to read up on them. Anyone know of some links to info for learning how to use them properly?

Gus if you do not have any tention adjustable line release (which can be a bit fiddly to set just right for the pound test of your main line)get a selection of elastic bands, loop a band from a snap swivel around your main line and back to the snap swivel.now depending on the lure weight your using and boat speed, strike as if you were setting the hook to see if the band breaks leaving you in direct contact with your lure, if it does OK if not try a smaller band .

Gus,
The NSBA website has some really great info on using downriggers for Stripers and Hybrids. I plan to hold another downrigging class at Bass Pro in June as well.

Scotty releases are by far the best line releases made and they are also the least expensive. Brick dragging is one of the best methods to pick up stripers when the thermocline shows up in the summer months. It's lots of fun and helps keep you cool in the summer with a trolling breeze on you. I will point out that it is not good manners to troll downriggers around other fisherman who are still fishing, I just make it a point to stay at least 100 yards from other fishermen when trolling. If I catch a fish I will circle back around and see if there are more fish there, if I catch another one near the same place I will break out the artificials and fish the spot out, it's a great way to locate fish and learn the structure on the lake bottom. STAY AWAY FROM THE WOODS, and always keep a pair of snips that will easily cut the cable quickly, if you get your weight stuck and the lake is rough it can rip a downrigger right off the side of your boat (of course this has never happened to me, only an idiot would do something like that)

Gus,
Practical application (on-the-boat-training) is the best teacher. E-mail me at redfinjim@yahoo.com and invite me along and I will show you the in's and out's of downriggin'. I'll even bring some of my fish gettin' downriggin' lures along. Ain't braggin' but I've done a bunch of downriggin' for reds, hybrids and stripers since 1990. I'll even buy your fuel...

STRIPERMACK, I could not find any articles on your website. Then again I have been known to look right past things at times.
