Another great spinning reel is a Daiwa Sol. They are easy to clean and dont lock up if dunked in the saltwater and they hold up to saltwater extremely well not to mention they are very smooth and nice reels with a great drag system. Dont let the price fool you either as they compare to $400 spinning reels at about half the price.

thanks for the info. my son and i have started to salt water fish this summer and lovin it. the daiwa reel only cost $33. at academy. i'm trying to keep the cost down till i know we will stick with it for a while. plus i have to buy 2 of almost everything. what size mano line should i use for the drum run? is 25 lbs.test ok for some green-horns like us?

If you are new to fishing I would at least stick to minimum 12 lb. test mono or maybe 14 lb. test for beginner. Pretty much 12 lb. test or 20# braid is sufficient for most all of your inshore fishing.
I use Izorline Platinum mono on my reels in 10 and 12 lb test. But if you can't find that just use some Berkley Big Game and that should do just fine for now.
Or for braid use Sufix or Power Pro in 20# test.

redfishSA, what kind of rod do you have the daiwa reel matched up with? (length, action, and lb. line size).
