Headed to Galveston this weekend for a little R&R. Was going to take the kayak and fish some of the paddling trail in the state park. Have not fished there before and was just trying it out. If anyone would like to have company just pm me. (maybe someone could show the ropes of coast fishing) fish

Might check out the texaskayakfisherman.com as well, alot of folks fish the coast down there.

Common Sense has become so rare that it should be considered a super power

from what i understand the reds are moving in, about to start running & some already have. u can buy or try & net some mullet & shrimp. the grocery stores, walmart, academy usually stock "red fish rigs" or u can make your own. its basically a stainless 10/0 circle hook 40lbs+ leader swivels, a egg weight for the bottom or weighted float rig for the top.

If the mullet are big cut them up into 3x3 pieces. if they are about finger length run ur hook thru em & set your drag. lots of fish like mullet & big shrimp. good luck bro. around the 2nd sandbar you can hook rays, jacks, reds, shark, etc etc. also get your top water lures ready cause i hear the trout are big too. i'd look for shad & other bait fish jumping out of the water any time but especially early mornings in or near the surf & cast at them with live bait under a float (use a steel leader), a big topwater lure & or troll the area w/ spoons! thumb please Let us know how you do.

Thanks for the info. I have my net loaded and an array of top water, cranks, and swim baits. Do you just start throwing the cast net in the surf or find coves just like in the lakes for bait?

some like the bigger mullet & find them in the surf. they are in calm water and surf, coves and just about everywhere. i dont like to throw the net in the surf. i look in the shallows near grass/ reeds & calmer waters. i find smaller ones in protected areas or in the shallow at the beach. keep moving forward, ready your net & when you see them swimming off, throw in front of them in the direction you last saw them swimming. sometimes you get lucky and catch them all in one throw. but usually you will catch 1-few each time if you time it right. wear sunglasses to see them better. if you keep moving you will see all kinds of fish swimming around but look for the small schools. redfish love live crab too. if you want to target big red fish i understand this is the bait of choice. youll use the same riggings.

I'd get a big weedless gold spoon and a zara spook. I've gotten reds to bite those two things when they wouldn't bite anything else.

down by the jetties, there are some shallow flats(on the right, before you get to the jetty) that are calm and loaded with bait... throw the net there. lots of large-small mullet jumping a couple weeks ago.

Almost black ( black/ silver) spook under any light at night will usually find a spec while the tides are moving.

Good luck, Phill

Well we are here. Rough night with the little one did not like the new place to sleep. may go to the beach and hang out today and try the surf side.
