I can't seem to get the water temp. to display on my HDS-7. I have the water temp. highlighted and all I get is a water temp with a row of dashes below it. Any ideas?

how are u getting your temp? what kind TM do u have, is build in transducer? Or are you using a skimmer mount transducer or puck style transducer with temp or are you running ep-80 temp probe.

raptor,
Is your HDS-7 Unit networked with another unit ? If so, then you need to tell the unit to use it's temp.

Yes it is. It is networked to the 5 on the bow. I get the temp on the bow unit the trolling motor has the built in transducer. Can I get water temp on both units? If so, how?
Thanks

Yes you can get temp on both.
How is it networked nmea or ethernet ?
You need to set both units get their temp from their own unit. I will have to plug mine up and give you the key sequences.

With Network Sonar turned on and the front unit set as active the temp will read, on both units, as whatever transducer temp the front unit is set to. With the back unit set to active the temp will read, on both units, as whatever transducer temp the back unit is set to. The only way, until we get the LSS listed as a separate source, to show the LSS as the source for both units at the same is to not have another transducer temp source in operation. This network sonar setup was done to only allow one transducer to be active, therefore eliminating crosstalk between the units. If you un-network the sonar then you can have both units as active, showing temp and depth from each unit, this can cause cross talk. The unit with the transducer with the temp probe will still show the temp from the probe, the other unit can use the temp from the LSS-1. ***Long story short to display LSS-1 temp on unit 1 and the remote puck temp on unit 2 at the same time on separate units Network Sonar must be turned off. Until we can get the LSS-1 listed as its own source, this has be entered as a fix with engineering, then any transducer with temp will override it.
To display the LSS-1 temp as the temp to unit 1 and the remote puck temp as the temp to unit 2 with network sonar on use the below procedure:
This procedure is to get two units with no NMEA 2000, one transducer with temp, one transducer without temp and one LSS-1 to display the temp with network sonar turned on:
HDS 1:
Menu-Menu-Network-Data sources-Sonar-Water Temperature-HDS-# [This device]-Menu-Scope-Local
HDS 2
Menu-Menu-Network-Data sources-Sonar-Water Temperature-HDS-# [This device]-Menu-Scope-Local

Or try this way
have 2 hds units networked via the lss1 port and only one unit will show the temp. UNIT A
Menu>Menu>Network>Data Sources>Enter>Arrow to Sonar>Right Arrow>Arrow to Water Temp>Menu>Arrow to Scope>Enter>change this from Global to Local>Enter>Yes/Save>Enter>Arrow down to the non "invalid" option>Enter
UNIT B Menu>Menu>Network>Data Sources>Enter>Arrow to Sonar>Right Arrow>Arrow to Water Temp>Menu>Arrow to Scope>Enter>change this from Local(if not already Global) to Global>Enter>Yes/Save>Enter>Arrow down to the non "invalid" option>Enter
Now turn off both units with the power button. Turn them back on and the temp should now show on both units..

Does anyone have good baseline settings for the HDS 7? I have a new one and it sure has a lot of options, wondering if someone could save me a lot of time by posting theirs.

this will be under your sonar menu screen
scroll down to the bottom and go under installation press ent. then scroll down to transducer and press ent then match your transducer. there should be a silver tab next to the 2d sonar knob behind the unit.
then put your unit shallow water mode first, then try these setting.
ping speed 18-19 noise reduction and surface clutter on low color line 72-74 sensitivity if you like run in manual try setting at 74--78 or 92-96 the reason for two different setting all depends on how it mounted.
lss-1
contrast 62-64 used 800 khz less then 120ft in scanning more then 120ft start using 455khz I used #6 color screen.
