Has anybody been fishing at the High Bridge on the Pecos river? For those not familiar with this area it is absolutely one of my favorite places to go fish. It is located where the Pecos and the Rio Grande meet. If you have been fishing there lately how did you do? A buddy and I are leaving to head that way on Friday.

You might stop by Angler's Lodge and talk to some of the guides and locals that drink coffee in there at 6:00 in the morning. Most of the guys usually stay on the main lake during the Summer.

I checked with the park service last week and they said the ramp was open, but the dock had not been repaired yet. Maybe someone else has a better update.

All I know is it is beautiful scenery. Can you imagine the old days on horseback and trying to cross that terrain.

That is one of the most beautiful places to wet a line. We fished there before the flood a few months ago because the wind was howling. We went up river and did catch some fish with plastics. Good Luck to ya

I would love to hear how the fishing is and what the "river" looks like. I am headed that way after the labor day weekend. Did the dock get washed away? Please let us know how it goes....

Well we made it back. I am not sure how deep the water is at the High Bridge we didn't have a depth finder but you could only see 2 sections of the bridge supports and I have been there where you could see 3 so I would have to say maybe 60 ft or so at least. On Saturday we got up through the dogs and coolers in the boat and cruised around and went up the Pecos I would say maybe 12 to 15 miles. We were in a 15ft Jon boat with a 25 Johnson and it will run about 22 miles a hour with 2 people and an ice chest in it and we made it to where we would camp that night and it took us about 30 min to get there. After running back to town to get ice we got everything loaded in the boat and off we went it was loaded pretty good because it took us about an hour and a half to make it back to camp. We baited about 10 jugs and threw them out and started walking in the water and fishing for Bass. My buddy caught a small mouth maybe 10 inches long and I got skunked.
Next day we got up and put the dogs in the boat and started looking for our jugs we ended up with 4 channel cats all about 6 to 7 pounds. we then decided to take our time and and bass fish our way back to camp and I ended up catching 3 largemouth bass probably 1 LB to 1.5 LB on a motor oil colored worm Texas rig. My buddy caught 4 largemouth bass on a orange and white spinner. Oh I forgot on Sat we saw 3 kayaker's coming down the river and they were on day 4 of there trip from Pandale to the High Bridge and said they had caught a couple little bass.
We loaded up the boat and headed back to the truck and the wind was blowing out of the south maybe 15 to 20 MPH and the water was way rough in a Jon boat it took us about an hour to make it to the boat ramp but overall it was a way cool trip. I will try to see if I can put up some pics off my iPhone.

Itsallgood: Great report and glad you had a good time. Is the dock usable, if I was by myself I would need a dock to tie to while launching and retrieving.

Ok Fine, yes there is a dock that you can tie your boat too right by the ramp. There is also a floating dock for the game wardens boat I saw a wakeboard boat tied to it when we were leaving.
