I have an old Ranger boat with a 1977 Johnson motor that has manual tilt. I recently got a CMC tilt and trim for it and installed it myself. When I took the motor off the boat, there was a metal wedge between the boat and the motor. Since I was going to have power tilt and trim, I did not put this back on when I installed the CMC.

Now that I've used the boat some with the power T/T I am thinking about adding the wedge back in to get a little better hole-shot and plane out faster. Is this a good idea?

If it is a good idea, would it matter if I put the wedge between the CMC and the motor instead of between the CMC and the boat? It would be a TON easier to install that way b/c to install it against the boat I have to remove the batteries and a 24 gallon fuel tank (not an easy task since the tank has to be completely disconnected in order to remove it) in order to access the bolts inside the hull.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I had a 155A back in 1976. Interesting bit of trivia. The "A"in the 155A or 175A boats designates Allison. Darris Allison is reported to have built the molds for the "A" Ranger boats back in the day incorporating the Allison pad designed hull.

Thanks guys. I put the wedge in yesterday (between the CMC and the motor). I'll get to test it out next weekend at Falcon. Thanks for the advice.
