I heard that those pontoons can try to "escape ownership" at a midnight dock when you leave it to go get your truck & trailer ;-) Shut it....

Don't let people scare you about loading and unloading being hard.
I load my pontoon as fast as I load the bass boat, if you can drive straight, you can load it.
The trailer may not help you out if you drive up crooked, though.
If you're worried about gas usage, throw a 4 stroke on it, my 75hp (on a bass buggy 18) sips gas. Maxes out at 25 (GPS) though running all day at WFO will use some gas.

Great points, but to say an outboard "Sips" gas is funny, unless 5 MPG is considered sipping

I have a 22' pontoon. I have room to fish 6 people and carry a shad tank. A man once told me with a bass boat you get there and then rig up to fish. With a pontoon you rig up on the way and start fishing the same time as the man in the bass boat.

In my 35 years of fishing Texoma and lakes around, it ain't the people with pontons that run thru the fish it is some guide that has people paying $600 to fish that drives the fish down after his clients have caught a couple of fish.

Go with what keeps the family fishing. I've fished in every kind of boat there is and always managed to catch fish. It's not the boat. There are plenty of nice pontoon boats. Choose whatever and if you're happy that's all that matters.

So true buy what makes you happy. It might be easy loading a toon on calm days but how about when the wind blows?

So true buy what makes you happy. It might be easy loading a toon on calm days but how about when the wind blows? When the wind is high I will jackknife the trailer a bit to line it up with the wind. Head wind or tail wind will not matter as much. I've had all kinds of boats and now on my second pontoon. I miss not being able to go offshore but other than that.......may get a third one.

I have a 22' Bennington with a 150 as well as another I see posted here. Nice tuna by the way, my PB YFT is 350lbs in PV Mex. I have a tri-toon and it handles great and does ok on speed. It tops out at about 35 but is rated for a 250 if one wants to spend the money and burn the fuel just to beat the bass boats on fork. I have fished for over 35 years in everything from running an offshore charter service out of my 26' Glacier Bay to my first boat which was a 10' flat bottom with just a trolling motor, oh and I still fish a kayak. But the biggest factor you must get over is the fact that because you are in a toon people who have fished half the time you have and caught less than half the fish you have think you don't know what you are doing. I have a TM with remote and spot lock, 2 side image units, and down riggers but fools still think I am new at this game because I come into the pack in a toon. It is a great boat, handles well and fishes great. The toon is my 7th boat. If you power you toon well and put a good TM on it, you will be very happy with the boat, just prepare for the folks making assumptions about your knowledge.

I wanted to find a pontoon without a motor, and mount a center cradel below deck about 3/4 from center with a 350 chevrolet V8 with a jet drive. That may be too much weight in reality, but even a 4cyl merc cruser with a jet drive. I wander if anything like that would work. Anybody seen a toon with a inboard or jet drive?
