I have a farm pond and i just noticed them on the nest as well. I dont think they are spawning this late though.

Hey Jaymack77 I am still being told of eggs that are being found in some of the gills and suns that are being cleaned. Two of my friends found eggs in some of their gills this morning. Who knows for what I have learned and been told late August and early September are good spawning times. Take care and keep fishing.

They spawn throughout the entire summer several times.

Big males are on the beds on clay/gravel bottom in Lake Bastrop, and the female 'gills are hanging out nearby along the outside edges of weedlines. Water temp is 92 degrees, but they are hitting tiny jigs under a slip bobber. A blast to catch on ultra-light rigs! Treated the kids to a catching trip the other day and we had the 3 G's for dinner ('Gills, greens, and grits!) Now that's some good eating!
Pass it on. Take a kid fishing!!
