A bunch of you may know that every Tuesday during the summer the Minnow Bucket Marina on Lake Fork puts on a Tuesday Night Tourney. This is a no holds barred, guides can fish, run what ya brung affair. You can start fishing at 6p.m. and have to be weighed in prior to 9p.m. Not for the faint at heart or whiners. The tournament has been fished by a bunch of guides and some top notch fishermen. There are a few guys that deserve some credit for their performances over the years. Over the last few years Brian Spencer, Eric Wright(the newcomer), Gary Paris and Billy Wayne have flat busted em up on Tuesday nights. I am missing a few names but nobody would doubt that the guys I mentioned consistently flat win em! During the past 5 years the weights have just gone up and up. Where it used to be that 8lbs won near every tourney a few years ago, it is not uncommon to see an 8.5 bag not get 3rd place in a 20 boat affair. In the past 4 weeks there have been six bags over 9.50lbs. Paris, Spencer and others have weighed in bags over 9.5lbs to finish 2nd! And this is in a tourney with 2 hours of fishing time. The weights are just unreal. A fun tourney to try a hand at. Easy to fish and simple rules. Rule 1. Don't cheat. Rule 2. Don't Whine. Rule 3. Be Respectful, pretty simple. It is a fairly low buck affair at 25dollars to enter but the season ending championship is always a bigger dollar tourney with over 2000 to win. This year on September 25th it will be a slugfest.
Last time I was on here was a while back but I remember reading a post about a Lake Fork Guide Tournament. Turns out It has been going on for years. All guides are welcome to come prove a point. Spencer, Wright & Paris have certainly made a few points over the past years.
Yesterday August 26, 2010 Lake Fork Guide, Gary Paris hit the water at 4:14p.m. and loaded back on the trailer at 8:12 to end a trip of just under 4hours on Lake Fork. The numbers are close to ridiculous. 59 bass up to 4lbs. To be a bit more specific it was done in three spots. Two of the the biggest community holes on the lake were fished. The trip Started on an 18ft hump right off a major creek point. Many other guides and fishermen drove by or were fishing close. Everyone knows the point. The Bass were biting good and caught 27 on a drop shot in right at an hour. Tried four different color worms, no matter at all. At 5:30 Moved to a tree line near the dam in about 8 foot of water. Took about 30minutes to find the fish and once located caught 14 with two slots. 8 fish on drop shot and 6 on a c-rigged 7" worm in red bug. As the sun dipped at about 6:30 moved to the grass lines off Caney. Fishing was terrific, plenty of schoolers and caught 18 and lost just as many in about an hour of fast fishing. Baits were a horse head and white little n. Not too tough to see the fish were eating shad. Throw anything in shad color that stays within 8 foot of surface and bang. There are many good guides on Fork. And always the best trip fishing is the next one. But if you are looking for a special time all I can say is that a trip with Gary Paris right now means a ton of black bass and good times.
Just some Fork Tourney news and a guide report. I hope everyone is doing well and getting to fish often.
