I went to the pier Saturday afternoon. It wasnt too crowded. We caught lots of croakers, hardheads, and other stuff. I saw a small shark get caught and one decent redfish. Nothing spectacular. Prolly best to go at nights with all the lights on the pier. I havent been to the pier before so i couldnt tell u if it was better or worse. I'd definately much rather take my kayak out in the bay tho. haha.
You are embarassing me...please put down the zebco 33.

looks pretty rough for that short 61st pier. the waves are breaking out on the deep bars, and the sandy water is out there as well. when that green water gets to the end of the pier... game on!

Is the 61st pier the only one that is going to be restored ? How about the old flagship pier ? Roger

I heard the Galveston Fishing Pier off of 91st street should start rebuilding soon, It was supposed to be complete this summer, but the typical red tape and paperwork held up the construction. The flagship hotel is owned by Landry's and they were supposed to tear down the flagship and turn the pier into an amusement pier similiar to Kemah's Boardwalk. We'll see about that.

last i heard on the flagship is that the peir part is going to be converted to a sun deck for the people in the hotel to ues and they moving the pool to the back and putting rides out front.they said fishing would not be open to the public, but who knows they might open it for everyone to use and enjoy.

Heading down to the pier.I called earlier and was told they were hitting specks.I should get there around 11 and hope that something happens.ill file a report tomorow and let you know if it's worth the 12 bucks.By the way the 91st pier is always my first stop when I head down to galveston.I fish off the rocks and always catch something reds black drum shark specks hardheads and whiting.I love that spot

I just got back from the pier.I got there around 11,stoped first at Uncle Bucks to get some live and dead shrimp. He's open till midnight.I passed Aunt Margies and they also were still open.Parking wasn't a problem on the sea wall at that time so I grabed my gear and walked down to the pier.It was windy and the waves were breaking around 3-4 feet.Paid my 12 bucks and got a wrist band that allows you to leave and return. They have an assortment of snacks and drinks,a bit pricey but it's what you expect. It wasn't crowded at all and every 10 feet or so you have a small cutting board to cut your bait.there are also some benches and small stools that you can move around to sit on.It's well lit.also the water is well lit. There is a filleting table with water,so that's handy. Now to the fishing.I went thru a large pint of live shrimp and a pound of dead.I caught some small and large Whiting, around 5 sand trout and of course hardheads. It was pretty much what I expected with the water being in that condition.I would think for night fishing with the right water condition You could do some serious fishing. You would need a pier net if you catch a big one though. From what I saw everyone was catching the same. But...I would not go there during the day.The length of the pier is no longer than the jetty at 37th street and even including the tackle I may lose to the rocks It still won't be $12 worth. So in my opinion,For that night fishing fix, when the water is right, spend the 12 bucks and fish.
