I just saw "Power" Cranks in the BPS Catalog. I recently put a smaller crank on my cranking reel. doing the math in my head, it seems a larger crank increases speed and the ratio. Any input is appreciated.

I don't think it changes the ratio. Your just turning the handle faster because it's smaller. Or with a longer handle, your just making wider turns. So with a bigger handle cranking big cranks its just easier cause your making wider turns. Your not changing the gears just adding more leverage. Hope that makes sense. I do it. Cheaper to get handles than another reel.

I've often wondered that too...Lets look @ tire size for example...
1.If you drive a mile on stock tires you'll go a mile...
2.W/smaller tires mounted you'll go over a mile on the tach in a mile....
3.W/larger tires mounted you'll go under a mile on the tach in a mile...
I went up a tire size on my truck and drove to San Antonio and the trip said 301 mls...Here recently I went back to the stock size and the trip to San Antonio said 318 mls...
I guess the easiest way to figure it out is to lay out something to measure....Pull some line off to a start point and reel in 1,2,3 etc. retrieves w/the stock handle...Make a mark and then do the same w/a larger and or smaller handle and see if there's any difference between them...

The crank bait has NOTHING to do with this equation. Look at the line recovery per reel handle turn (i.e. 5:1 about 22", 6.2:1 about 25" and 7.1:1 about 30".). You get less resistence with a smaller CB and you are not working as hard. If you reel faster, then you move the bait faster, slower is slower. If you put a smaller HANDLE on your CB reel, then nothing has changed, except how small your hand turns in circles. Many people put longer handles on their reels to be able to move more line quickly (given the same RPM). It doesn't move more line quickly, because the gear ratio has not changed. You then would have to reel MUCH more quickly to take up as much line.
If this is a troll. Good on you.

It gives you better leverage. Thats how it generates the "Extra Power".

Yep, lower the reel ratio, the less your cranking hand will hate you after throwing a 22 all day. And a "power handle" definitely makes a difference with bigger cranks.

You can slightly "adjust" the ratio by spooling less or more line.

You can slightly "adjust" the ratio by spooling more or less line. Full spool is a higher ratio than 1/2 full spool.

I don't about all that, I have learned to adjust my retrieve accordingly and I just know for some reason it makes it easier for me with bigger handles, I have them all my reels from 4.7.1 to 7.1.1 all 12 of them
