Hey guys,
I have done a little bit of fly fishing before, but don't know much about the equipment. I am going to Broken Bow in October to hopefully catch some trout on fly and am looking for a good beginner to intermediate rod/reel. Any suggestions?

Academy in Lewisville had some Okuma 5wt with the reel, 9ft graphite rod, this is what I am starting with, they are I think half price now, 34 bucks, I got them when they were on sale and paid 17 for mine might check em out. They were not with the fly stuff they were with the loose rods back by the reel counter.

B Crad, what kind of budget are we looking at for the whole outfit? Knowing that will help us spend your money much more wisely.

Well, I mostly just want to make a good investment. Nothing that is going to break and something that will make learning easier so I am willing to spend a decent amount. 100-200 bucks probably.

The TFO Series One are all 2 piece rods. If you ever expect to travel on an airplane to a fishing spot, I'd strongly consider a 4 piece rod. With that said, all TFO rods have a bullet proof, no fault, unlimited warranty and they stand behind it. The Academy rod will probably have a one year warranty. Most of the Cabela's entry level rods also have a one year warranty. I can't tell you how many times customers return to the store with a broken rod tip or line guide and no warranty...if you are making a true investment, consider the warranty as well as how much you like the rod. We have the TFO Pro Series (4 piece) rods, a good reel, SA GPX line and backing ON SALE now for $159.99. That is a steal...the regular price on the rod is $149.99. BTW - TFO NEVER GOES ON SALE...until now. Off Sales Soap Box.

Look at the Cabela's Three Forks/Prestige Plus combo. The rods are nice, the reels are nice, however, I might suggest getting a different spool of line. You can do that for under 150 bucks. Nothing wrong with them.

The TFO deal David is talking about is a great deal. The Pro series is a stiffer blank so it will catch trout at BB but will also come home and catch the green trout as well. A great deal in my opinion. I have 3 TFO rods now and love them all.

David nailed it- that deal's hard to beat. Most of the TFO just add water kits run $180 and up. For $160.00 with that rod reel and line-I'd jump on it!
