08 premium.

i was wondering the same thing. why would the 08 premium be better than a 2010 platinum? you would think they would improve each year. anyways if 08 is the better one then that is what i will be looking for also. Also my 1197 is the nvb model, does that make any difference when i install a 08 chip? thanks

I thought that he NVB models already had the chip installed in them so you don't need another chip. Is this not correct?

the maps are preloaded but trying to add a card to get better detail.

I had the 2010 Platinum in one unit and the '08 premium in the the other unit earlier this year. I traded the 2010 Platinum for another '08 premium. The map details had changed in the 2010 and I found I prefered the '08 maps better. For me, the additional options on the platinum did not justify the additional cost.

For others dont purchase the NVB loaded in your new unit especially if you are going to purchase a newer card anyway. Premium or platinum will give you better detail/more updated info so you dont even need the older NVB(Navionics Value Bundle).(I know, dont you appreciate other people giving you hindsight?) I purchased the Platinum for the the satallite photos and 3-D but really just a cool toy. If my info is correct you will get the same definition with the premium as the platinum just without all the satallite immages and 3-D maps. Because Premium is now the "old" model you can serch the web and find some good discounted prices on them. Purchased my Platinum through anchorexpress.com for below retail and no tax. Delivered in a couple days.

I have to second 361V's comments. We have the '10 platinum chip. We are using the 3-D feature more and more. It can sometimes be quicker to view the lakes bottom contours than it is to interpret the contour lines on a map. We turned in an older chip and received a rebate making the cost a little more palatable.
