I am planning on purchasing a small/inexpensive depth finder for the front of my pontoon barge. I have a large unit on the back and just need this one to give me depth/fish data off of front.
I like Lowrance but don't like their service reputation. Am now looking at Garmin 140, Eagle 245DS, and Hummingbird 170.
What's your opinion on Mfg and/or models, and retailers.
Thanks a bunch

STAY AWAY FROM GARMIN! Lowrance x67c is a good unit upfront.

What do you have at the console? I'd recommend the Eagle 320 for about $130. Great unit used by a lot of guys on here.

Ok, whats the difference from the 480 and the 320?? It's the amount of pixels each graph has if I remember correctly.

Ok, whats the difference from the 480 and the 320?? Yep...the 320 is 320 horizontal pixels by 320 vertical pixels. The 480 has 480 each direction. More pixels = more clarity

Thanks all for the info.
It sounds like Eagle is the way to go. Not too surprising as I have used several Eagles ove the years with good service.
I have a large Lowrance combo sonar, GPS, map unit as my primary electronics. It was on the boat when I purchased it and I have had good service from it. But, I am dismayed about all of the negative comments concerning service problems with Lowrance.
Hope everyone has great fishing behind the expected cooler weather later this week.

I have the 320 on my tube. May put a 480 on it this fall and and put the 320 on my 2nd Tube that I let my kids or a buddy use. This thing has improved my ability to find fish X100. Lot's of people laugh when they see it, but the people who fish with me aren't laughing when we are done.

I like the 480's too. But either will do just fine for you the 320 or 480 that is.

They don't make the Eagle 320 or the 480 anymore. Lowrance did away with them and the only Eagles left are the smaller units. Lowrance now makes the Fish Mark 5X and the Fish Mark 5X Pro to replace them. $159 & $199 approximately.
