Well... Long story short, I fished with Lance Vick and got the electronics lesson I needed. I am installing structure scan as we speak, and have all the cables run. My question is... Can I run the structure scan box straight to power, or do I have to put in a switch like the manual says. I just don't know if I run it straight to power if it will draw any current.

Thanks
TJ

Put in a switch. If you run straight to power it will always be a drain on your battery. Just follow the directions that came with it and you should be fine.

Haven't seen you lately at GCR. Congrats on the SI as it will show that hump like never before.

It is actually better to run the LSS-1 POWER straight to your Battery ....

You want to run as the manual suggests, the LSS-1 power and ground DIRECTLY off of the battery as your LSS_1 contains a relay circuit and does not draw any battery power until it is told to turn on. Do be sure to use a fuse in the power lead to the battery and it is best to not run it to any console power source. Adding a switch in the POWER wire is needlessly redundant; go to the battery.

You will though want to run the LSS-1 yellow wire (WAKE-UP)either to 1) a switch with available POWER or 2) splice to the yellow wire from your console mounted HDS. The yellow wire does not supply the unit with power. Some people like to run the yellow wire to its own switch so you can save the LSS-1 from using battery when you are just using the HDS as a GPS and not looking in the sonar. (Console switched power is ok to use for the yellow wire).

Also might mount the LSS-1 like I did upside down in your locker so you can see the lights which Lowrance messed up, otherwise all the dim LED indicators would be angled downward.

What do you mean? It only turns on when the HDS is on? I was going to install a switch and until I do I was pulling the fuse to turn off the LSS power.

My LSS1 only powers up when you power up the HDS.

If you connect the yellow(wake on lan) wire from the LSS to the yellow wire on your HDS unit. Everytime, you power on your HDS unit, it will send a wake to the LSS and it will power on and stay on until you turn your HDS unit off.

Just got mine. Can't wait to use it. Thanks for all the tips. So where is the best place to mount the transducer? Do you use it while running on pad of boat, or do you use it mainly while idleing?

Mount it to you jackplate somehow. If you mount it cable toward boat is best but if you have to mount it like pictured above be sure to swith the left ,right in the menu. It will not work on plane Structure only at idle. The yellow wire is the switch wire and it has to be hooked up. to power.

Thanks for the information on how the LLS is powered -- saved me a headache.
