Replacing a metal brake line on a 92 chevy pickup. The old line is 40", the new one is 50", that's all they had at the parts store. You can twist the lines to fit, thats no problem. My question is will the extra length have any effect on the braking performance?
Thanks

Not having the right part will affect it more than anything else... Dont mess around when it comes to safety. How do you twist metal brake lines? Worst case go pull one from the junk yard clean it up and use. Try LMC for parts online.
If its a straight piece before you go twisting, cut the tube to the correct length and reflare the end.

Your brakes will work the same with a 50 or 40...just route as best you can and don't twist it...I would spend the time to get the correct on though...mostly because I am a picky a-hole. grin

The brake system will take just a little more fluid to operate safely, but I agree with the other post and wouldnt mess around with incorrect brake parts.

And if you do attempt to cut and re-flare the end, it will take a double flare (special tool). It's be best to hit a dealership and buy the correct line for the truck, or the junkyard as suggested above.
