Never have personally but it happens from time to time, some are more prone to than others. Merc Trophies seem to be the worst.

did you sling one of the blades I am assuming....the tempests are real bad about it. you are lucky it did not go thru lower unit cavitation plate like a buddy did.

I busted a blade off my 1989 Mariner at Fork back in the late 80's. Still have the prop minus one blade. I use it as a discussion piece.

Man, that sounds dangerous. I lost a blade on my TM (hit a rock) and it really shuttered when rotating. What happens if you're up on plane and lose a blade?

Yeap and it was on a Merc Trophy Plus. Was out in the middle of the lake in front of the dam. Punched the throttle kind of hard while doing about 40 mph. Merc replaced it when I worked through my dealers parts department and sent in pictures. Prop was about 1 1/2 years old and had been tuned and polished but they still replaced since the blade broke off pretty clean near the hub and there was not even a nick in the remaining blades so it was easy to tell I had not hit anything. If you want to stay with a four blade look at the Turbo TXP OT-4. I have the TXP 3 blade and it is much stronger and faster on my boat than Tempest so may be the OT-4 will compare the same as the Trophy.

If you need it fixed, give Steve at Steve's Props on Lake Fork a call.
