What's the best time of year to do some serious Striper fishing on Buchanan in Cen-Tex?

Any time but August! I'm just learning striper fishing but until the water temperature starts to drop, it's tough for a lot of us.

TPWD Fishing Reports

You might want to go to this address and look at all the 2004 fishing reports. Go to the bottom of the page, pick the lake and which year. Check out the water temperature, how the fishing was, where and how deep the fish were. It's a starting point.

Might sound stupid to you, but I have caught my best stripers on the coldest days of the winter. Maybe luck, I dont know, but it works for me.

Well...I was going to say January/February since I have caught more and bigger stripers during that season. June and October is pretty good for numbers.

I'm with TerryT...August is tough. July was darn near as tough.
I'm looking forward to a great winter and spring.
For me, Late November-January is the peak of the winter bite and April is the peak of the Spring bite.
But, like Terry, I'm just learning how to fish for striper. laugh
I catch more stripers faster and more consistently in the winter, but have better quality fish in the boat in the spring. There are times in the spring when top water schooling surpases the winter bite in both quality and quantity, but it has been several years since that happened to me.

RangerRob got into a bit of that on Tawokoni this year...great catch and quality fish Robert!
