What is the more productive colors of the pet spoons and what weights used for stripers on Texoma....also how much leader should be used between the hellbender and pet spoon and how much weight added to the hellbender?

I use silver with white #13 petspoon. I normally use 3/8 once of the front of the hellbender and it gets down to about 17ft with a 24 count. I make the leader about 4ft.

I use the chrome with yellow or white feathers in the #12 size. We generally put about four foot of leader between the Hellbender and the Pet Spoon, but there is also a 3 way swivel tied in at about 30" with a 12" leader and a Spec Rig jig tied on it. We put a 3/4 oz barrel swivel on the front hook screw of the Hellbender.

I use the 3/4 ounce and as much line as I can so that the pet spoon will hook on my abu before the hellbender gets reeled all the way up.

It's just a cheap jig set-up that BPS sells that is originally intended for fishing specs in the Gulf. It comes with two jigs rigged on mono. Just cut the jigs off the mono and put them on your Hellpet rig like described. You'll be pleased with the results.

Skinner can you post a link to this Spec rig jig? I looked on BPS's web page and could not find the jug set-up.

If your fishing Texoma you will end up with alot of small ones . I would slab early or fish live bait . You got to be there before day brake !!

I would not go more then 5 foot leader, 4 foot is about right. Been using this for a long time and I have found that longer leaders are not the best.
With 4 foot you can hook it on to your reel or hook keeper and reel up and the hellbender will not be at the tip of your rod.
Plus it is about right for swinging the sandies in the boat, any longer then 4 makes it a little tougher.
