Check out todays Star Telegram, Bob Hood reports that Swedish experts may have found a solution to the Alga using Christmas Trees and Barley straw. Don't have time to elaborate but check it out this is GREEEEAAATT news. They are testing this at Possum Kingdom this year. Submerging 5 acres of trees and barley straws. Keep your fingers crossed and say your prayers that this works.

It sounds like they are actually doing this in a number of spots in the lake, each up to 5 acres, and 6' deep (assume this is height of bales and trees from bottom).
Should make some nice brushpiles, if nothing else.

I have a 1000 gallon fish pond in my backyard. I have always used a mini bale of barley straw to control the algae. Also I let the coontail grass grow as much as I can as this stuff completes with the algae for nutrients in the water.
Waiting on Bob Davis' next selfie
