gutcheck,

we have lights on the power boat & kayak. it was still light but the law doesnt read that way. i guess if they wanted to, they could have legally issued tickets & not warnings.

Thanks, Nate, for the invite. It was a blast fishing with you guys, and even though I only caught one kitty, I learned a new lake and got to meet two TFF living legends (fiSh ZoMbiE and Catfish Salsa). Here are a couple of oberservations from that night:

1. The last part of the 2 hour drive out from DFW to Cooper Lake is a nice one, and the town of Cooper is such a quaint little town that I found myself pulling over and taking pictures of it despite the fact that I was already late. Nice little town.

2. One good deed deserves another. As I pulled up to the ramp, I was asked by an older couple to back their new pontoon boat down the boat ramp (they were having trouble doing it). One look at their small grandchildren waiting anxiously to get onto the water, and I couldnt say no despite the fact that my fishing partners were already on the water, on a big lake, and I had no idea where they were. As the couple was loading up their grandkids, they offered to tow me out to the middle of lake and look for the gang. So I took them up on the offer and they towed me out on my yak and dropped me off with the flotilla. Hows that for a win-win situation?

3. If youre going to fish with Zombie you better be in good shape, or have a motor boat. That guy covers lots of water in pursuit of fish. I got to the middle of the lake pretty fresh (having been towed out there), but was quickly wore out trying to keep up with him while he chased the birds all over the lakefrom a kayak! LOL.

Anyway, a good trip, good lake, and good people. Here are a few pics

Need to get out to the middle of a lake pronto? Then all you need is some 550 cord and a pontoon boat. Thanks to this family for the tow.

Couldnt keep up with the Zombie or the birds, but caught this guy trolling a drop-off as the sun starting setting. I actually caught him in about 12 of water and was then blown into the shallows by the breeze.

The moon materialized while paddling in, and I thought this might make for a cool pic.

Theres something about this little town (Cooper, TX) that caught my eye. One of these days when I retire, Id like to live in a place like this.

Cooper, Texas. Population 2150.

Go Bulldogs!

Yes, thats right. Established in 1887. Very cool.

Nice pictures! Looks like you added a few goodies to the kayak. Did you guys get in the water a lot?

Yeah, I added the johnny bar & fish finder, Dave; and no, I didn't get into the water much. I didn't launch until 1600ish and didn't really think it was that hot out there. Had a decent breeze.

Nice pics! It sounds like you guys had fun. I just got my first kayak and plan to get it wet today. Hopefully I'll be doing some fishing like this before long. For now, I'm going to try and keep the seat side up :-)

Great report and pics, Nathan and fellas! Looking forward for the next outing with the zombie! Thanks for the invite. Looks like I missed out. And sounds like I I need to get in shape to keep up with the Zombie! Lol!

Burt, my first time to cooper in March of '09, I had the same feeling about the area. The facility at the state park is nice and inexpensive if you guys wanna camp there. And the people are very friendly. FYI.

Derek...I mounted it inside the hull. Proved to be the easiest. No problems so far. How's Arizona treating you? Wet any hooks yet?

Dry heat which I guess is better but also dry in terms of fishing. I haven't found a Brazos-like river to fish out here yet.

Cooper has a great state park. Lots of wildlife and trees. The cabins are clean and right on the water.

Me and my man caught a few over the winter (the time/date stamp is wrong on this pic) with Tommy (Trophy Catfish Adventures)
