I purchased my circle net at Wal-Mart. Now, I haven't used it yet on the lake but I watched the tape that came with it and followed the directions and nearly every throw out on the driveway came out a perfect circle. I think I paid around $25 for it.

http://www.seeinstripes.com/castnet.htm This is the method I use to throw a 6' and 7' radius net. It is easy to remember and does not require you to put anything in your mouth while throwing! I have taught this method to many of my friends and even my 10 year old son. Man it is good when every one knows how and wants a chance to throw the net! Hope this helps.

Been practicing last few days, doing much better. Getting the net to open 60-80% on most throws.

There's nothing more gratifying that setting up, casting that perfect throw and seeing all the flickering in the net as you pull it back in! Nice going Brad!!

Where are a few good places on or around Lake Palestine for catching bait. Back home, on the coast you could go almost anywhere along the way, but up here, I'm lost

My casting will have to take a break for a while, had my gall bladder out Tuesday. Doubt I will be able to do any fishing for 7-10 days.

Brad I see no one has talked about how a correctly constructed net makes cast netting easier - If you don't already have one a six panel net throws and opens much easier than a one seam uninet, it will open rounder and lay flatter increasing the amount of water covered, learn on a 7' net the biggest legal in Texas, also learn the single load method of throwing, lastly purchase Fitec Pro Selecte nets and most of your troubles will be over.

I'm not the expert, but after going through the same frustrating learning curve, I found that the "secret" for me was as follows (assuming you are a right-handed thrower):
(1) Twist your body like you are throwing a discus, keeping your right arm extended. I hear comparisons to throwing a frisbee, but it is much more like a discuss. Make sure you twist around far enough on your windup.
(2) Keep your left hand close to your body until you release the net, so your right hand is more or less pivoting around it.
The above is for the simple method for throwing smaller nets.

Bradshaw, what part of town are you in? I have a ring that every one is telling you about and you are welcome to it to start out with, I have graduated to a real net person all you have to do is wait till your son is old enough and tall enough to throw it and lessons over let him throw it all the time he loves it (till he gets tired he has the net) so call me on my cell phone to get the ring, 940-453-9494.
