Anybody own a Reuben Heaton scale? If so, do you like it? Also, I'm looking at potentially getting the 120lb rated scale, but most fish I catch will be between 10 and 20 lbs. If I go that high, will it be hard to be accurate on the 120 lb scale? I have a goal of catching a big gar so I don't want to stop at the 60lb scale, unless it will be hard to accurately judge lower weights with the 120 lb scale.

Thanks for your feedback.

PB Buff - 56lbs
PB Common - 26lbs
PB Mirror - 7lbs
PB Grasser - 45lbs
PB Koi - 10lbs

Mine has always been accurate and I love it. I ended up going with it because so many people have them and recommend them. I also went with the 120 because I knew I would regret not doing so if I ever caught a fish over 60 (gar or buff or whatever).

As far as I know, RH scales are the best you can buy for fishing.

I think Steve has the 120lb. model, his is marked for every 1/4 lb. You probably wouldn't want to use it for registering a state record for this reason, but you can reasonably guesstimate down to the oz.

Buy them, its the best investment you can make in carp gear...almost 10 years since I bought mine and they are going strong....

Great scales, kind of synonymous with carp/specimen fishing, I had one awhile ago, and sold it and just recently bought another 120, you can always make your own weigh bar if you figure the fish you'll be catching will just be so damn big that there's no way you can lift them with ease, but that's about it really.

get a weight bar or a tripod and a scale pouch to protect your investment. Reuben all the way

I've had the 60# for a few years, and they've been accurate at every ATC test so far. Someone recently pointed out that I might need something bigger - especially when fishing Emma. Well - even if I did catch a stinking monster Buff -- I wouldn't be wanting to claim any records. Not that I really hate them -- more I really concentrate on Carp -- and, if I ever get close to not having 'enough scale' with 60# -- I'll be sacking it, and calling ESPN - to get a crew there ASAP smirk
Great scales -- that tell the honest truth.
PS -- a weigh Tripod is definitely the way to go. In the event of a huge fish -- far less stress on all concerned -- with shaking hands etc!! For smaller fish, a weigh bar is OK, however -- anything over 20lbs --- if you're trying to read it accurately yourself, it's NOT easy.

I bought the 120 just for the fact that it was the same price as the 60 lber, very accurate, get yourself a tripod, can be bought at a reasonable price, most def get a pouch to protect your investment. You never know when you will get that 60+ buff, don't leave yourself short.

PB Common = 36-8
PB Buffalo = 62-8
PB Mirror (fully scaled) 13-0
PB Flat Head Catfish = 44

The tripods I see at BCT are $100! Can someone recommend one that may be more reasonable?

There are some nifty scale hooks that fit on the end of a storm pole that make it easier to be steady while weighing a hefty fish, but you can't beat a tripod ease unless you have a handy tree branch to hang it from!
