The gate is open to N.B., at least for today. Hopefully the rain will hold off for a few days and we can keep it open. The fishing has been hit and miss from what I have been told. I talked to someone yesterday and they where drowning minnows and doing okay. I have been told that the whites out on the lake are still full of eggs. I don't know if they are going to spawn in the lake or if the run is going to last a while longer.

Judge,

Seems like in years past the Somverville run was in full swing this time of year--early to mid-March. Almost sounds like it peaked last month with the little buggers running early this year. I was surprised to find that folks were catching good numbers of them up the Yegua in late January.

Just an observation on my part...

The Lake level was about 240'-241'...
And it was a high temperature of about 50 degrees on those days...

Go to show you...
You never really know until you get out there and try... :p wink

OH YEAH,ALMOST FORGOT...
THANKS, (JUDGE) FOR LETTING US KNOW WHEN THE GATES OPEN...

In my many years experence in white bass fishing, I have found that the last two weeks of March, and the first week of April are the best weeks of the spawn. The last two weeks in March are the best, and the first week in April is the last of the spawn. After that, all you can catch, is small males. With all that said, the best is still yet to come, but it is also means that it's close to the end. Darn the bad luck.
This year, we just didn't get enough of the winter slow drizzle for several days rain. You know, the rain that saturates the ground real good. All we ever got, was the quick down pours, of about 2-3 inches. Don't get me wrong, that helped the fishing a lot, but the water levels droped off to quick. There's just not enough water for a real good spawn up the creeks and rivers this year. I sure hate it too mad , because the fish seem to be a bit larger this year, than last year. Oh well, even if I were only to catch two more limits this year, I feel as though I have caught more than my share, and had a blast doing so laugh . There's all ways next year. wink

I went down there on Saturday and it was slloooooooow! We only caught 2 fish from 3-dark. In my humble opinion the run is winding down, however some guys down there had 30 between them but had been fishing with minnows all day. Other people i talked to had very slow days also. I think i will move to the main lake next trip. good luck! fisher03

Fisher03 - the white bass have moved to the lake. Sunday afternoon, I went to the Buffalo Bar and Grill to have lunch. I met a few guys up there (as well as the owners wife) and the claim to have limited out Friday, Sat and Sunday ...The folks at T's grocery said that they were selling the heck out of minnows and that people claim the whites were in the the lake. So...if you deduct 50% for BS...that is still alot of whites in the lake.

I will be on the water next weekend to try and get on 'em.

I went down to Irvin bridge about a week ago and caught nine males. It was real slow. They weren't all that big either. I myself, feel like the run down there is over. The week befor that, I went to NB and caught the heck out of females. Had some people next to me pretty mad. They couldn't beleive that I was throwing all my fish back in. They asked me if they could have em, and I told em that I let all my females go back. They didn't like that answer to much, because they had a whole sringer full of em.
