Shimano all the way.....And I have nothing against ABU's, I own several of them. They just aren't as light or durable as the mid range Shimano's....(This from a guy that owns exactly 6 Shimano's and 6 Abu's, albeit old Abu's, 521's, 5600cb, 321, ABU Lite)....

Cant go wrong with either one both are as strong as can be. Just find out which one balances with the rod you're getting better and which one feels better in you're hand.

Both reels are awesome. I use both and love them. I prefer the Abu's for larger diameter line(15-25)because it lays better on the spool. It also has a stronger drag and feels more solid due to a slightly heavier weight. The Curado will throw the lightest baits a mile and is super low maintenance. I use mine alot for frogs and jigs or C-rigs that I need the fast retrieve with. I am sure others have noticed though, that the new Curado's super low profile does not lay line on the spool as well and will lead to faster twisting. In other words if I throw a trap all day with the curado with 17lb mono lets say, I will probably need to change it out due to the decrease in casting distance due to the twisting. Just my two cents, and yes I am knit picking, but I have noticed these things and am curious if anyone else has.

In regards to durability, the one fact that speaks for itself is that probably 90% of the saltwater bay fishing guys use Shimano reels. Prodominantly Curado's and Chronarch's. Just sayn.....
