Originally the FLW Tour was on ESPN and the show was hosted by none other than Tommy Sanders himself. It was a great show. I do not know what happened to that agreement, but it seems ESPN liked doing it so much they bought BASS and kept Sanders. Now with FLW on versus I do not watch it. First off it takes 20 minutes to weed through advertising and back stories to see a single fish catch. Second, between the Crane Cam, Hat Cam and Cam Cam it is not enjoyable to view.

As far as the Anglers go, if you are heavily sponsored you cannot brand your products with the FLW. You have to wear their shirts, logos, boats and so on. Bass has made a point of having their anglers brand their own sponsors.

In a nut shell BASS puts on a better show and makes promoting your own sponsors a priority.

The FLW fields are giant, there are too many pro divisions with the East/West thing, then main FLW tour - consequently there are too many events on lakes no one has ever heard of or cares about. Yes, BASS fishes the same lakes year after year but so does FLW. I could care less about a tournament on Lake Norman or the Columbia River where you know that 11 pounds a day will run away with it. FLW stands for Fish Little Worms.
Some of their non-endemic sponsors make zero sense. "Oh hell ya, the guy in the Huggies/Suave Shampoo boat just caught a giant." The team sponsorship thing was a good idea but it's just not really working. It's cool to have some uniformity but in this sport there's no benefit to the individuals. Not only can't you market yourself as it is because of FLW's crazy sponsorship rules, once you get picked for a "team" you wear the exact same jersey and hat as 14 other dudes. So good luck standing out and being a recognizable figure.
Their TV presentation isn't blowing the doors off anyone either. I'm sure they have a passion for the sports and whatever other force field defense they want to use, but even when BASS is covering some guy you've never heard of, they make it compelling. Here's where BASS does it well and where FLW fails - letting the angler's talk more. With FLW you get about 6-8 seconds, on average, of an angler talking and explaining what he's doing - then you get straight to the narrator throwing out buzz words to try and make that 3 second fight and netting of 2lb fish sound like a game changer. With BASS they'll let a guy explain what he's doing for a good 2-3 minutes, hell they may show him just standing and sweating (it's called building tension, FLW. Read an RTV book.), then when he catches a good fish there's a decent fight and he has to land it by hand. It may be someone contrived or artificial but at least it's somewhat compelling.

Number 1 reason Bassmaster Magazine. Number 1 fishing pulication.
The FLW publication is hard to find and the articles are not very interesting. A lot of smallmouth articles to a mainly largemouth crowd.

Retirement best job ever.

Lately it seems they have stepped up the magazine game. I find more helpful articles in FLW (minus the hunting section) than BASS. That may just be me though.

Check the 2011 FLW Tour Schedule...I think they got the hint.

It looks like it could be some bigger sacks than 11lbs. I'm sure the 11lb bass on Falcon in March would eat the Columbia River bass!

FLW doesnt get as much attention because of three things.

#1 They are tied to one boat manufacturer, I know this shouldnt make much difference but I think it does.

#2 They do not market outside of the Ranger crowd.

#3 There have been issues in the past where they have put the screws to some of their anglers buy having/cancelling trails & more or less used the tournaments to increase sales of new boats by changing the minimum date to qualify for bonus money.

Nothing wrong with Ranger Boats, matter of fact I love them, but it is hard to keep things square when you must drive one particular boat to make it worth you while. Only so many big name pro's can run one brand of boat. Until they fix this they will remain in 2nd place to a lot of folks.

This is called "BASS listens to their anglers"
FLW is all about FLW, (not to say BASS isnt)
Going to be interesting to see aht happens with BASS after their new ownership group gets onboard.

+1
Everyone has fish care issues, they all do their part by not having so many tournies in the dead heat of summer.

Mabey since BASS was sold we can have a litter more ligetimacy in the elite series, namely the AOY. I would like to see an BASS FLW co-championship at some point. Mabey top 25 points from both legues? Kind of like an American League national legue thing.

THE SUPER BOWL OF BASS FISHING!!!

then you could have the tripple crown of bass fishing being the BASS master classic, the Forestwood Cup and the Combo championship!

Ya, you wouldn't want to recognize or give a sh*t about any of the anglers. That would be horrible.

I agree.

You just about double your winnings owning a Ranger.
