Why does B.A.S.S. get more attention than the FLW? #5182020 08/10/10 03:50 PM

This is just a discussion of why more people watch, discuss, and post about BASS compared to FLW?

BASS AOY post went on for days...

This weekend The Forrest Wood Cup was on and there was very little discussion on the forum (I know it was shut down Sunday).

The angler who won was a Grass Roots angler! He cashed a check over 600K, 100K more than the BASS Classic Champion.

Isn't grass roots what we all want? FLW offers this angle to the anglers. BASS is dominated by 2-3 guys. FLW seems like a more level playing field.

Some of the angler fish both Tour and Elites. Some switch gears and find one better than the other.

What makes BASS more popular than FLW?

FLW Cup pays out way more than the Classic (1-10th place).

FLW covers the entire weigh in online(for free). If you want to watch a BASS event weigh in you have to pay for ESPN 360.

Let's discuss!

Longer running and built up better at one time. Alot of the older pros (Nixon, Hibdon, etc.) left and went to the FLW, because they didn't like the way ESPN was running BASS. To much glory for and footage for people acting an idiot on camera. It will be interesting to see what happens with ESPN selling of BASS.

Venues. FLW goes to little fish venues, BASS goes to big fish venues. What would you rather watch, 8 pound sacks or 20 pound sacks?

Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

I like KVD don't get me wrong (he's a freakin machine), but I'm getting bored watching the same guy win everytime. Same lakes, same story year after year.

Guess who will win Kentucky Lake....AGAIN? LOL!

I agree BASS does visit the lakes and just the right time.

I like the fact FLW puts the attention on whoever is doing well. The coverage at the FLW Cup was outstanding! Hank Parker did a great job interviewing the leading anglers. Everyone has the chance at the spot light.

I am in no means bashing on BASS. I fish both BASS and FLW events. I enjoy both of them equally.

I just started noticing how different they really are. Payout, media, sponsors, the anglers, ect.

I wish FLW got more credit for doing such a great job.

I too am curious how ESPN selling BASS will change the make up of the events and the structure.

BASS has history and tradition on its side. Its where the greatest fishermen of the past competed and where the children who idolized these greats dreamed of competing. Granted ESPN has done some damage to the BASS image, which is debatable. FLW just does not have the background but given time who knows.

FLW has really stepped up their game this year, the quality of their tv shows, and online coverage passed BASS this year IMO, and with the walmart and boone pickens money it might be just about impossible for them to catch up. BASS getting away from ESPN ownership is good for them in just about every way, but honestly I think they have dug themselves too big a hole. The only thing thats kept them in the fray is thier branding and logo which is so well recognized.

Flw does zero marketing. No one knows when the shows are comming on. They have no comercials. They are no doubt better then bass but they absolutly suck at getting their name out there. They need to make their fishermen more idolistic like bass does with kvd or skeet or Ike. The same way NASCAR does. The average person isn't gonna care to watch "some guy" fish. I know we all would but the gen pop doesn't.

It is curios the difference, FLW use to be Operation Bass the old Redman trail. I think it has a lot to do with TV coverage, BASS got on early with ESPN and that allowed them to keep their name and brand out there.
I enjoy watching the FLW events a lot more than the BASS events. At least with the FLW you see what they are fishing instead of hearing about the latest commerical for their sponsor and if they can keep coverage they should do well. T. Boone is in this to make money so you should see the brand getting out there.

Slowly folks are realizing FLW runs tournaments with bigger payouts and a well run show....if they catch up with the marketing like BASS does it spells trouble for BASS.

I like both but there are big differences in the way things are run.

To me it boils down to marketing. Who ever is responsible for marketing FLW should go find another job.

In my opinion, if you look at FLW's past, alot of rollercoaster just to stay going. Maybe if they didnt hold so many restrictions on sponsors and boat brands, then maybe they would do a little better.
