I have a 2000 ZX202 and am wondering if it has a wood or composite transom. And, the transducer for the Lowrance is mounted on the transom. What is the best thing a guy can do to ensure no water gets inside the holes for the screws? Is just loading it up with marine grade silicone good enough...or is there some great secret I dont know about? On my last boat, the guy before me did nothing when he installed the transducer. When I went to change it, this nasty brown water came running out...I know it was from the rotting wood in the transom. I just want to avoid this with my newer boat.

Depends on what model and year skeet, they still use wood on some models, some are wood free.
If it were *MINE* and I had a suspect transom hole, I'd put it under a sun lamp for a few days to steam out any water that could be trapped, and then seal with 3M 4200.

One of the main things is to re-seal the outboards mounting bolts on the transom and put good silicone on any screws to be put on the transom.
