Bass(I know bad word here) were not biting tonight, so hubby set me up for crappie fishin... I loved it. We caught a bunch but kept about 6 and fileted them and cooking them tomorrow night, going to see if we like it . Any tips or suggestions anyone would like to give a new crappie fisher?

Hang out here long enough and you'll pick up quite a bit of good info. Other than that go hire one of the guides that post in here, Guy, Ernest, Chuck, or Cliff and tell them you want a seminar trip. It'll be money well spent.

mrs.,
you'd do well to get ernest paty's "crappie 101" video. It opened me up to a whole new world of crappie fishing that took me well beyond soaking minnows tied to a bridge. Also, spend some time on here reading what people are saying about various lakes... ask lots of questions, wade through the sarcasm, and you'll find some great info. that will help you catch crappie consistently.
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

Go to the baking isle in Albertsons or Krogers and pick up a couple boxes of Kellogs Corn Flake crumbs. Give them filets a bath in some whipped up eggs. Then roll those fillets in the Corn Flake Crumbs. Lay them out on Wax paper for a few minutes to let the dry (helps the crumbs stick). Now give em a Hot Oil bath and enjoy!

How'd it go? R u hooked yet? Crappie is the only way to fish. You'll forget about those green trash fish before u know it.
I highly recommend Ernest's video, worth every penny. As for cooking, simple yellow corn meal works great, but haven't found any mixes I don't like, except spicy or cajun.
Did you get a feel for the thump yet?
