I posted on the Boats and Motors section and nada. Maybe better luck here.
I'm seriously considering LUND for the last boat I'll ever own. I like the 1800 Sport Angler (got intimate with one in the lot over at Advantage) but I also like the 1800 Fisherman for the ProCapacity rod storage. I'd like to have a 150 OB with a 9.9 4-stroke kicker for all the trolling I do. Of course, I'd get the SportTrac downrigger mounts and the stereo system.
Not overly impressed with the 1800 Sport Angler because it doesn't have the storage that the 1800 Fisherman has but I like the wide open lay-out of it (no bench across the back giving you more room).
Anyone out there have an 1800 Fisherman or 1800 Sport Angler and how do you like it? Or maybe you have something different in the LUND line - if so, tell me what you like and dislike about it.
Thanks.

we regularly beat on a 16' Classic SS. This boat is very impressive for a small boat. We have been out on the lake (lewisville and Texoma) when it was VERY rough and we weren't even concerened. I mean VERY rough like 4 footers. This boat is great in the rough stuff. It has a 50 HP 4 stroke on it the boat is rated for a 60. It will pull 4 fairly heavy people up on plane but just barely. I think a two stroke 60 would make this boat have more out of the hole power. We go with mostly two people or two grown ups and a kid in it so the boat is perfect for that as the 4 stroke Merc 50 will troll/idle great w/o loading up. Overall this boat is the fishing machine. Good placement of the livewell on side near back keeps boat dry. I think the Lund track system makes this boat. Thr Track is a very convneient mounting system for rod holders, down riggers, drink holders and whatever. I REALLY like this boat.
If the 18 footer is as good or better than this boat it just hast to be a sweet ride. And with a 150 HP and the larger size you shouldn't have any trouble with performance, speed or rough water. We do things in this metal boat that I would never try with a fiberglass boat. Stumps (slow speed bumps) and beachings are nothing to it.
If you see us out there on Lewisville stop and take a look/ride.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

Redfin, I know you've seen my boat. It's a 1900 Pro-V with an Optimax 225.
It's a little outside what you're looking for, being 19'.
But...if you want to take a ride, let me know. I'll be happy to take you for a ride.
I tell ya though. That rod storage system is awesome if it's the same one in my boat. It's in the floor, heading towards the bow of the boat. Holds 14 or 16 rods...can't remember which.
Anywho, I think Matthew and I will be hitting Grapevine for a while in the morning for some sandbass and may stop in for some crappie. If you want to join us, that'd be 3 large(r) folks in the boat in scheduled 15MPH South winds. Should be a pretty good ride. Let me know if you'd like to join us. Be happy to have you aboard.
My cell # is (817) 319-1614 if you're interested.

I have fished, often, with an old man on Cedar Creek who is well known for his finding and catching. He runs a Lund 16 foot. I'm not sure of the model. Yamahammer 115. My boat is a 180ZX Skeeter with a 150. I love my boat for the flexibility it offers, dry, smooth ride, etc. But I'll say this - if my entire focus was going to be whites and hybrids - the Lund would be my choice. It is very dry. Offers a great ride. Trailers well. And it runs a lot less fuel than my fiberglass boat. Lund is a winner.

Appreciate the offer, Jeff, but I am already committed for tomorrow. Matthew called me and asked me for you. Trying to get as much done on the kitchen-dining renovation as possible before I get knee replacement surgery the 10th of August. But I'll be happy to take a rain check...

Redfin, My 1660 SS Crappie Edition is probably the best boat I've ever owned and near the top of the list of boats I've riden in. It's been all over Lewisville and Lavon on those blow hard May and June whitecap days. I think I'm gonna have to take the boat in for a look at the gas guage...it CAN"T be using that little gas!! It has the 50 h.p. 4 stroke Merc "bigfoot" I like the layout, but I can definitely see the need for more storage space. Love the boat and have already decided to upgrade to another Lund at some point. Maybe you, DTA and I can get a day on the water sometime. The number ONE thing, however, is Joe Ham. Joe is a stand up guy and will treat you right. It's his business and he's the kind of fella who signs his work with pride.
He leadeth me beside still waters.

I know you were asking about the smaller boat but just wanted to put my 2cents in on the Lund quality. Just got back from a fishing trip in Alaska and rode in the 20' Lund Alaskan. We fished for Halibut in the bays there at Ketchikan and I was truely impressed with the way that boat handled the weather and the water. We went through some seas where the guide, it was the Tiller Edition, never got wet. If I didn't have my 18'6" CC Flats boat I think I would look at the Lund. Very impressive. Oh! by the way I was lucky enough to put a 59" 103.1 lbr. in the boat. That was fun and work. Good luck on your boat search. Cliff

Got an Black 18' Lund Fisherman, 04 with 140 hp Suzuki 4 stroke. The only one you'll ever see on Bridgeport with driver grinning from ear to ear. Takes the "rough" out of rough water. I am real happy with it. Had to go to Wisc. on vacation to buy it though.

MY LUND EXPERIENCES: - 1991 -16 Ft-Lund Rebel-Console Steering - 1997 -14 Ft-Lund Rebel-Tiller I LOVED BOTH BOATS. In 1997 I switched to tiller for boat control and ease of loading in two types of fishing. I fish Lake Cumberland Kentucky-Large TVA-Highland Reservoir and I fish Cumberland River below the dam. NEXT PURCHASE WILL BE -2007 LUND CLASS 1625 I'll get console steering again with maximum HP and 4 stroke for slow trolling, riding the waves of a large lake while fishing or pulling grandkids in watertubes REASONS: - I am 64 years old and will be introducing my grandkids to fishing. (9- under 6 yrs) - I'll usually have 2 adults and maximum 2 GKs) in the boat for fishing, or towing tubes. - High Sides - To keep kids in boat, rough water. - 3 pedestal seats in front of me at bow-ideal to watch grandkids while slow trolling. - Seats at bow - no raised. Good for me/Gks. to keep me from falling out of board. - I love the performance of my bowtrolling mtr. - I have even rigged a life preserver cushion on the bow to sit comfortably while trolling. - But I also like a transom mount trolling mtr. - The Classic 1625 accommodates both conveniently - In backtrolling- 20 inch transom and boat design minimize water splashing into boat. - The Classic 1625 has enough storage and room for my simple needs with minimal boat weight. - Having used a roller type trailer on my first Lund and standard trailer on my 2nd Lund, I prefer roller style trailer. IT ALLOWS ME TO SHOVE BOAT OFF IN SHALLOW WATER BETTER. QUESTION / OPINION NEEDED: - I am leaning towards installingjack-plate to allow for improved shallow-water performance. - How much will I gain by using a jack plate over the standard power tilt?????? - I am hoping that a jack-plate will improve shallow water running by a few inches. -(I will be slow trolling-Not racing in the river - WHAT EXPERIENCE HAS ANYONE HAD ON THIS? - I AM BETTING THEIR ARE MANY OLD MEN ON THIS FORUM WHO CAN RELATE TO MY UNIQUE GRANDDAD BOAT NEEDS. THANKS

For several years I fished for salmon and halibut out of my 18' Lund/tiller 30hp around Juneau, AK... these saltwater bays and channels can be rough as a cob with storms and extreme currents. It's amazing how many 16 and 18' Lunds you see out there. Steady and sturdy skiffs and at times I was in somewhat scary stuff, but just slowed down, pointed the bow, and rolled right over the chop. Caught some big ol' fish. Good boats.

Jjoe, so you musta had the Alaskan. I was looking at it real hard...good looking boat, a little narrower (beam) than what I'd like but it looked to be really sturdy. I'm now looking at the 1850 Tyee Magnum, so I've added a fourth model to get priced. I do want the 9.9 kicker for trolling, so I plan on cutting back from the maximum rated hp OB.

I'm betting you'll be happy with whatever size and model fits you. The Lund is one of the Alaska bush's workhorses. I guess they sell thousands of them up there all the time. The little kicker will serve you well, too. We used them both for trolling and for those tricky times when you gotta have some power of ANY kind because the main unit's out. Enjoy.

Redfin, Where are you looking? Catalogs, dealers? I gotta get over to Advantage and see what that boy has on hand! Do you want/need side-by-side front seating for spider rigging? Took DTA fishin' @ LL this past weekend. He seemed to be impressed. Give him a shout. Or give me a holla and we'll go wet a hook.

Anyone know a dealership in or near Houston that carries Lund boats. I put in my zip code on the website but no luck?
