Delee is correct. I have a freind in the NRC. Last word he got was to take that lake off your list. It will not be reopened to the public. But, If you happen to be high up in TESCO...

Personaly I think it is BS that this lake is shut down to the public! When it first opened it was impossible to get in without camping out or going during the week. I think if they will let anyone fly but, must go through a screening process, then why not let the rest us do the same to go fishing! I'm sick and tired of the petroleum, gas and electrical BIG DOGS keeping us out while their employees have full access to these places! If TPWD continues to support these areas then we should be entitled to access! I'm not just talking about Squaw Creek there are many areas shut down for one reason or another. Irving gave up supporting North Lake to TXU and now that lake is closed to the public! TPWD patrolled that lake all the time! There are areas the public was never allowed to fish and, if not for some friends that worked there I would not know about the super fishing that was available! Don't get me wrong, I was not an employee so I just heard about it and was not allowed to even go in there! Our sportsman funds and tax dollars are being exploited by politics and the greedy rich! Why is it that all members of the TPWD board are appointerd by the Governor and not elected? Check out that, some of them do not even hunt or fish! Why is it that the meetings for all new agenda is only held in Austin during the week? Sure we are allowed to attend but, not once have they sent me a notice. But, I can count on at least two brochure reminders a year to buy my Texas Hunts lotto tickets at ten bucks a pop! Who is spending our money and making these rules! I think it is time for some serious changes in the system! Sounds like Taxation without representaion to me!

Sorry about the rant,
A Tracker

Didn't mean to stir the skirts, but.....
Thanks for the feedback tracker, and once again, that's what makes a discussion forum , especially this one, a good thing
I am an amateur student of history, and what you speak of is historically ingrained in this state. Look at the public hunting shame in Texas. My .02 yall be safe. I am afraid that for better or worse, the other posts re. let it die are probably on the point. This one is gone, and the reasons will remain whatever they are. But we have lost it.

Speakin of which big jim, do you think it's possible (and if so why) and if so how would one help in initiating the process of TP&W helping restore our dead sea Granbury lake? That lake and the brazos are the main reason I bought my home 17 years ago where I did. 15 minutes from the lake and 15 minutes from the river

How many of you still purchase power from the TXU? You can indirectly poke a stick in the eye of their generating company by switching to another electricity provider.

During recent years, electric deregulation required that TXU break up its generating, transmission, and distribution into 3 seperate companies. Deregulation also required that consumers would have a choice of their electric supplier. TXU is now campaining with a lot of advertising to keep their old customers from switching to another supplier.

If you want to speak a little lowder, switch your electric local service to a new (non TXU) electric provider and tell TXU you switched because they closed Squaw Creek!! How many neighbors, family and friends might also switch?

Bud,

The deregulation of the utilities didn't make new electricity, it just changed who gets paid the profits.

I work for one of the Incumbent phone carriers. When you change your phone service to the "little dog" phone company, all you are doing is paying them. The lines are still owned by the same people. The service and repairs still come from the same people. Nothing changed, except thename on the bill and a couple dollars a month savings.

All the deregulation really did was make the long running utility companies lease their equipment for rates that were actually lower than the cost to maintain them. This meant that the new companies could charge less than the original suppliers could. All in the spirit of "free enterprise". Sorry, I strayed a bit here...

In other words, changing the electrical carrier won't do anything other than cause regular guys like us to lose their jobs. It won't hurt the company itself. It will just release workers until they meet the numbers they set for their sharholders. Your solution isn't well informed, I am sorry.

If you think they care about their employees, just read my company's Mission Statement. "To improve shareholder value."

No mention of the employee, the customer, the community, or anything else. It is all about the dollar folks.

Basically, They built an awesome lake, and an awesome golf course. The threats out weigh the rewards guys. If you can get them to shut down the power plant and remove the need for security, I am sure they would reopen the lake. Unfortunately, we all know this is not going to happen.

Sidelt67,

Sounds like you got caught in the communications deregulation. Electric deregulation is as I explained earlier. If you want to continue buying power from TXU because you feel a committment to the "little guy" who works for them that is fine.

Deregulation did create some new electricity. There is wind and solar generation which would not be be generated if a market for it was not made by deregulation.

TXU has 3 companies. A generating company, a transmission company, and a distribution company. The distribution company is the one we purchase power from. That power may come from anywhere in the Texas Grid (which also includes a little of La, New Mexico, and Okla) The generation source is whoever the local retail supplier is purchasing power from.

You can eliminate a portion of TXU's profits to the stockholders by not using them as your local supplier. They will continue to be involved in the transmission because they own the lines to your house. However, they will not get the profit from the retail sale and possibily not from generation.

It just gives all of us a way of saying to them, "you had a choice and chose to close a lake to fishermen and I have a choice of who I purchase power from". I choose to purchase power from someone else because of the choice you make at Squaw Creek.

Hey Bud,

I really was not intending to sound so harsh when I wrote that. After I read you response, I went back and read my post. I sounded like a sour puss. Sorry for that. I know you got the meaning of what I wrote, but the senicism didn't need to be there.
