hey guys I'm obviously new here so forgive me if I posted this in the wrong area. But I am going to surfside Jetty this weekend. So I was wondering what kinda of fishing should I be expecting. I would like to catch a shark or some sort of nice big fish but I am kinda of a new guy to fishing so don't know on what kinda bait to use. So if yall can help me out here with ideas and tips and baits to use and what to expect at surfside jetty would be great. Thanks! And again if I posted in the wrong area I apologize.

Use live shrimp under a popping cork for trout and reds but the trout have been biting in the surf pretty good. For a shark just use a fresh piece of cut mullet and use a wire leader and hold on.

Ok sorry for sounding dumb and all and I truly appreciate you commenting and all but what exactly are wire leaders and how do I use them? Are they something that needs to be used to catch a shark or can I use a regular fishing pole? Again thanks

you need the wire leader as the shark will bite through the fishing line, so a wire leader is a must for sharks.

a wire leader is just that a wire leader. if you go to cabelas, bass pro, or any tackle shop on the coast they can tell you exactly what it is and how to rig it.

Howdy guys....I'm a newby to salwater fishing too. Have a week long trip planned for Galveston starting tomorrow. Does anyone know the cost to take the ferry over to 17th street.

If you're referring to the ferry service in Galveston (ferry road to hwy 87 on Bolivar Peninsula), then it's free.

Yes...thank you. I checked the web and see it also operates 24 hrs. Pleasantly surprised to see something for free!

Does anyone want to hook up and do some surf or jetty fishing this weekend or even during the coming week? I hate to say it, but I've never caught a saltwater trout or redfish and am eager to learn some tricks of the trade.

take 288 south to freeport go through lake jackson exit to your right hwy 332 keep going straight till u see buckee's store. Ice is cheap there and breakfast too.. keep going past the levee or hill and there are 3 bait camps there 1 on ur rite 1 on your left and 1 on the right before the bridge but under it..after you get the bait go over the BIG TALL bridge and turn right at the Valero gas station and keep straight till the road ends in the neighborhood then turn left till the end of the street and the jetty park is on the right...Bring something with wheels to haul ur gear its a long walk.....
