I recently returned from a trip to Jax Beach, Fl. Over there, they use Gotcha plugs for spanish mackerel and bluefish. You don't see too many folks using them around here. I bought a couple and tried them out on the Surfside jetty. There were guys all around me throwing the standard silver spoons and they were hooking up with the occasional mac but I was catching them left and right. They were bigger than the ones the other guys were cathching too. I even hauled up a few nice keeper sized trout. One guy wanted to buy one from me for ten bucks, I told him no way. I am now hooked on these things like a crackhead. Anyone else try these things out?

When I would fish Packery Jetties, I would tie them one after the topwater bite died. Great lure for Jetties/Surf.

I have a good selection of those. I call them pencil lures.

Great lure for spanish macks. They are used from piers very often for catching macks here in Texas.

I used the metal body, silver with red head, bucktail dressed. From Cabela's, I bought about one of every flavor in plastic and metal bodies. I'll bet that they all work pretty good. Not cheap though. Keep them up out of the rocks!

Kool thanks for the tip, there not that bad on price there pretty much around the same as any other hard bait lure for salt. I just seen them online on both cabelas and basspro and seems bass pro has them for a bit cheaper.

I was toward the end but there were folks catching smacks all up and down the jetty. It starts getting crowded on the end if it's a weekend and the smacks are running. Treble hooks flying everywhere! The Quintana side is not nearly as crowded.
