it is left open until it rains so call the park to make sure it's still open

Anyone going on Monday?
Does anyone know if the gate is open at N.B.? can not decide if I should go to circleville or the N.B.

I will probably start off in circleville and then head to the the bridge or n.b.

Fished 5 1/2 hours with my father on Saturday. Started at about 9:30am & fished till noon at Irwin Bridge -- it was work, but managed 12 fish between us (10 we kept + 2 that went downstream with my stringer when I accidently kicked it lose -- argggh!). All the fish we caught @ Irwin were on the small side (11" to 13") and all males, so figured the spawn was ending & fish were headed back to the lake, so after lunch we went down to Newmans Bottom & hiked about a mile downstream when we got there, then worked our way back -- still tough fishing -- 2-3 fish per hole & had to keep moving. Picked up another 6 fish before we had to leave. The fish we caught at newmans were bigger, but still mostly males -- only two femails & both had already spawned.

If I can ever get to bed, then I'll be going in the morning. I'll be at newmans bottom this time.

looking forward to hearing how you do @ Newmans fishytx...

question for everyone... what line do you use? I do better with smaller diameter line, but like 10lb to pull lose of hang ups at the bottom w/o breaking as often. tried a 10lb 'supermono' - it had no abrasion resistance, so broke off more than 6lb does. is there a good small diameter 10-12lb line that has good abrasion resistance & is soft enough for spinning gear?

I use Berkley 6 or 8 lb XT it works ok but you need to keep it fresh because it gets stiff and has some memory and looses knot strength pretty quickly. I have friends that use the new kind of line that is 10-12 lb test with 4 lb diameter and it works OK but it will "stack" on spinning gear and if it gets twisted it is bad abut knoting up. I've used fireline from berkley and didn't care for the way it handled on my spinning reel, but it is some strong stuff..

Sorry I'm late with the report...my cousin and I went Friday morning to Irwin Bridge. We fished upstream from the bridge all the way to the "Posted" signs. Managed 25 or so between the 2 of us...only kept 10 (that's plenty to eat).

Didn't get on the water until 10:00am so I think we may have missed the best bite. All in all, a good day.

Thanks FishyTX for the report. I've never fished IB before as we've always fished down on Cedar Creek. The water at Cedar Creek was in great shape but not moving at all.

Well, Newmans bottom is eveything I said it was. The water is still to high on the lake, so the lake water is all the way to newmans bottom. If you go to Newmans, then be sure to go up stream, because that's where all the fish were today.

I ended up with seventeen fish today, and they were all males. Saw a lot of spawning going on too.

My guess is that there is only about a week of the run left and that's it. Now this little cold front could help slow it down some, but I still think it's just about over.

Rog did show up at newmans and we fished together for about an hour. I all so ran into Txfishermann today as well.

I think I can squeeze one more day in this week on the Yegua. If everything turns out okay, then I will try to hit it on Wednesday. I would like to pull one more limit out before it ends.

PVille...yes, I think Cedar Creek is off cr125. We've been fishing there for years and usually it is awesome....depends on the water level and flow.

We walked a long way upstream from Irwin Bridge. Not sure where they were drilling. We just kept walking and fishing the holes we came to. We came to a "Posted" sign and the trail didn't look too worn so we stopped there and fished our way back.

Caught most of the fish out of the few holes closer to the bridge.

THe fish I caught last Friday looked pretty spent so Fishytx is probably right about the spawn in the Yegua winding down shortly. Not to worry though, the whites in the lake around Birch Park will continue to be strong until April
