Made the trip to Birch park Saturday morning and fished up in the creek from about 9:30 till 2:30 did OK but it is a long paddle in a kayak. Managed 2 crappie and 4 nice big whites 14-15 inches. The water is muddy and high and the lake is coming up pretty fast so the CORPs will be opening the gates again soon. Talked to a TFF'er and he said that the run should be full-on shortly based on the last few years. Lets hope we don't get flooded out there might not be any pictures for a while.. I dropped my nikon in the creek and now it don't work quite right I cleaned and dried it pretty well but I hope the water hasn't damaged the electronics..

HL&S-
If the water level ever goes down, the run will be fun on. However rain is forecast for most of this next week, along with some really cold temps. Thanks for the report. Were you fly fishing this morning?

Yes I flyfished quite a bit but didn't catch any fish with the flyrod, everything was caught with roadrunners in white- chartruse or yellow.. I did have the tail bit off a large black curly tail. I also saw two bald eagles many times up towards the head water of the creek.

Boy I hate to see more rain as far as it goes for the Yegua creek. It might help it out even more, but it also means we will have wait a little longer to catch limits again. More rain would help out Reimer's a lot though. I'd like to see about a four to six foot rise in that river to bring up a ton of fish this year. With that said, lets just hope it rains more in the hill country, and just a little around here.
Does any one know how much the creek came up?

From Brenham take 290 toward Giddings at Burton hit FM1697 and then turn right on CR 180 and head toward Nails Creek Park. Before you get to the park turn left on CR 125 then turn right on CR140. The gate to Newmans bottom is at the end of CR140. If the gate is open you can drive all the way back to the creek (1+ mile), stick to the right at the fork as you pass through the gate (left side goes to an oil well) It is a pay area $2.00 each person and the Game Warden is out there all the time so mind your manners and play nice
