Beleive it or not. The ethonal alcholol in the fuel that your buying, as well as everyone else, is doing a good job cleaning the inside of the fuel tank. You need not worry about the crud coming from the fuel tank if you install a water seperator filter between the tanks amd the primer bulb. That bogging at 1800 rpm is problably related to a float in the carb out of adjustment. Or your floats are beginning to swell from the alcholol fuel. (If someone knows how to post pics, Let me know, I have a pic of a merc carb showing just how much the fuel has made the float swell, I can e-mail the pic.) Mike I would also tell him to check the reeds while he has the carbs off.

I forgot about the switch boxes. I had the same problem as JimZ. I had one switch box go out.

I had to have my voltage regulators replaced. Are those the same things? Anyway, I may have found my issue. Will know tonight. We bought the 6 gal tank at academy and took it to the water last night to run it. Still acted up. Went home and pulled off the cowling and was just poking around. I look and see the wire that feeds the spark plug to my number 2 cylinder is broke off. I am hoping that will solve my issues. Sounds and seems like it might be. We will see. Hopefully I can make time to go run it tonight. If that isnt the fix, then who knows.

Took the boat out tonight. It seemed to run better. Idle was not near as rough. It bogged down the first three or four times i tried to go, then it took off. I ran for about 30 min stopping and restarting and going again. It has some hesitation at times but did not bog. It definitely ran differently all around. I am out of town for a few days so I plan to run it a lot more next week. I hope the bogging will go away completely as I run it more and get all oil/gas buildup burned off.

My motor still has a bogging issue when taking off onto plane. It bogs down at around 1800 rpms, right at the time when your about to really start plowing water before you get on plane. I have tried everything it seems, and before I spend more money by taking it back to the mechanic, I thought I would see if anyone had any more suggestions. It does not miss a beat once I am able to get it on plane, but it may take three or four attempts before it will actually take off. Didn't know what other things might cause this. All my fuel lines are replaced. I have a water/fuel separator that has had its filter replaced. It will also bog down and die out when I try to power load it onto the boat trailer. Thanks for any input.

If that 175 has the acellarator pumps built into the side of the carbs, I would check that out. And at the sime time, do a good cleaning. Rebuilding the fuel pump diaphram would be a cheep item and only takes about 15 minutes. But the first place that is most often overlooked is the split stator. The second leg of the stator kicks in anywhere from 1800 to 2800 rpm. If it is not kicking in. BAUGH..... The engine will run fine up to that point and then fall flat on it's face. When that happens, you automaticallly think it is fuel related. And in a way it is, too much fuel and not enough spark.

Thanks guys. I was on the water this morning. Decided to check this and when I read this turned around and headed for the boat ramp. I am going to see if the guy that rebuilt the motor can take another look at it. If nothing pans out, I will be calling you, mike.

Check the timing arm, sometimes they advance real slow causing a hesitation. It could be the trigger wire in a bind (sheath gets stiff with age and heat), bolt too tight, or grease getting dry.
Disconnect the throttle cable and manually advance it a few times to see if it "slams" against the stop or slowly moves towards the stop. I see this quite often and many shops over look it.

Is the timing arm what the the throttle cable ties right into? If I'm asking this question it may be that I am in over my head. Ha.

This is exactly what mine did when the high side (second leg) went out. It was a while back put I seem to recall that once I got it to break over it would run. My experiencing with bogging has been too much fuel, not enough air, or weak spark more so than not enough fuel.

Thanks Stump Jumper. I have a call into my mechanic. Hopefully I will hear from him today and can get it into him. I will let him know that many suggest to take a look at the stator. If this is the issue, do i have to get a new stator or can this be fixed on the existing one? Thanks again.

Revisiting this once again. Motor has been fully checked out, and everything checks out ok. Timing is right on, cylinders are all good. My mechanic things it is a fuel supply issue. I have always noticed a suction noise coming from my tank when I pump my prime bulb. I did some messing around and undid the valve or siphon or whatever it is called that connects to the fuel line from my tank. Messed around with it some and found that the siphon or fuel pick up, whatever its called makes this noise. Is this normal or could the valve be bad causing me to have poor fuel pick up. Its just getting annoying and I wanna get this solved. Basically motor bogs when going from a slow idle to a higher RPM ie. trying to get up on plane and or power loading the boat onto the trailer. My other thought was could a prop cause this issue as well? Too much load and the motor bogs out? Thanks again for any advice.
