My buddy is on the Tru Tungsten prostaff and he just told me that owners of TT are fixing to lower the hammer on some of these other tungsten weight companies out there because they are copying their patent. I'm curious what kind of patent they have on tungsten weights. I'll have to get more of the scoop on this hot topic and I will share it with everyone over the next few days.

I hope they can lower the price!! Agree. Some of you on here may not be familiar with these weights and continue to use ol' school lead - which I still do on occasion as well. They're pricey - so much so in fact the word "tungsten" translates into "tongue stung" for those unfortunate anglers who swallow a stray wasp at their local tackle shop when dropping their jaw at the price.

I'm sure all the cheaper options out there right now are putting a bite on profits...
Same with some of the soft plastics companies lately.

I have to admit, I dont know the advantages of using tungsten sinkers instead of lead sinkers.
All I know is that tungsten is an earth element (like Lead) that has a much higher density that Lead. I think its not toxic as Lead too, I cant remember.
So Im thinking the advantage of using Tungsten is that you have more weight in a smaller size? (Thus more casting distance...)

Along with the smaller size, tungsten is also much more sensitive thus your able to feel the bite better.

If they are copying their patent, then they are no better than a cheater. I'm not sure your information is really correct because the US patent office wont patent something thats been publicly known. I've really done my homework here and if its public then it's just that. I've paid a lot of money for my patent idea on my weights and I really doubt a new tungsten sinker idea has been patented. You can Google any idea you want to check, so I say start there before making a statement to hurt any tungsten manufacture. My idea is patented. And I expect all to respect that.

So I wonder if I am to expect a letter from TT lawyers than... Than again I don't manufactor our weights directly so should be good.. Not to mention there is no Patent on their weights.. Good PR move though I suspect..
Competition is good period..

Does anyone know who brought the first tungsten weights to the market? It was Mark Pack of Lake Fork Trophy Lures (Lake Fork Tackle, then). Tru-tungsten wasn't the first, but they were the first to copy LFT's idea. For them to "go after" others is comical, IMO.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

TT's weights are made across the boarder in Laredo. Their cost on production is way less than these fly by night tungsten dealers which mostly comes from china. TT is making a massive profit on their weights.
I bought a 150 1oz TT weights for $300 and 40 1.5oz TT weights for $100. You just have to know where to shop.

TT weights are not the same as LFT weights. With the patents for most baits on the market, it is a design patent. All it requires is a small change from the original design. How many different flukes, Rattle Traps, Crank Baits and so on are on the market? Too many to count. Point being is that there is no violation of patent due to a small change in the "design" I doubt very seriously that anything will come of this even if it is a factual statement. Besides LFT weights are cheaper and do the same job at the same performance level.
