ok, so i am looking at the abu garcia website.....it only lists the S and SX series reals.....so where do i look up the revo STX and PREMIER models? and what is the difference between them all. the S has 9 bearings. the SX has 11 bearings and is available in the high speed version.

ok, so far i have gathered that the STX has a somewhat better pinion gear. other than that, they are pretty much the same.....leaning towards them rather than the curado.....need to check service availability...

I wouldn't say that is true in general. In playing around with my setup I have found that there a lot of variables that factor in the performance. Like type of line, the weight of the bait, as well as how much line is on the spool. I guess it is a matter of perspective. I have three SXs and really like them. If I can afford it I probably will buy 3 more next year. This is because for maintenance purposes I want all my reels the same. Learn how to break down one and you got em all.

And its just my opinion that the Sx offers the best performance for the price which means to me the best value. I'm sure there are better reels but thats just me. The only dig I would have against it would be that it would be nice if I could pop off the side cover and interchange the spools with a different type line. I don't want to end up owning, buying, carrying, rigging, and maintaining 19 some odd rods and reels.

When I cast if I brake them down hard enough the brake works; no back lash but distance suffers. So I thumb the reel when I cast which coming up from a collection of hodge podge karp reels and such I am used to keeping my thumb on the spool. But I still get good 45 to 50 yard casts once I get the reel/bait tuned or dialed in. Again it depends on your budget or what you are used to. Good luck.

the sx side cover comes off real easy to change spools, or what ever..
you do have to loosen the screw that keeps it from coming off when you dont want it too.

brakes suit me just fine ..spool tension and magnet ..
if you need more than that, a little practice might help

the new Revo SX is virtually the same reel as the old STX for less money...

the thing about the Revos with just the magnets is that you have to use the tension knob more than you are used to...which is why you hear criticism from shimano guys (which in those reels they would work fine with just the brakes and the tension knob totally removed).

If you actually set the Revos like the manual states you end up with a fairly tight tension and about 25-40% on the magnets...which gives you a nice range for adjustment.

I just handed down my S to my daughter so she can learn baitcasters. Going to get my new SX today to add to the other 4 I have. They are great reels IMO.

I got multiple SX and STX. I love them both. The STX is better but it costs more too. I think the STX is a better deal than the premier. Checks the # on the drag. the STX is actually stronger than the premier. I think the premier is a bit lighter and that is why it costs more. Also, dont rule out the Revo S. For the $ its a nice reel. The STX is my top pick out of all reels. I love them, easy to clean too.

I have the Revo premiers, and after finally learning how to adjust them, i am very happy with them. One word of caution--only one screw holds the side plate on. Twice i have had the side plate fall of the reel during a cast and one time it fell in the water. Check that screw more than once during the fishing trip! Props to Abu customer service--after telling them what happened, they replaced the side plate at no charge!! Nice.
