last year it took 5fish every tourn. with at least 16lbs, 10, or so to get a check.this year i think there has been 2 limits on wed. nighter could it be that the lake froze over about 60% this year, or what

Too full and too much fishing pressure-its a very small lake just like a pond the fish will shut down with alot of pressure.

I believe water clarity has been part of the issue - more stained than normal for a long period of time. Some from run-off and some due to discharge from Eagle Mountain because of rains north of Ft. Worth.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I dont know where to begin with Lake Worth this year.... there have been less tournaments overall on the lake this year than in years past, and the fish never really turned on so I dont believe its a pressure thing. More than anything else I believe it to be a combination of the winter we had and the amount of water the lake has in it. IMO the lake fishes best when its 2-3 ft low, with it near full the fish have miles and miles of cover that we fisherman cant even think about getting a bait into. We've had 4 limits since we started the workingmans in March this year, 2 of those were 13 lb bags, one was 8 lbs, and one 10 lbs so still not stellar even though they were limits. Its just an off year for Worth, several other local lakes have been pretty bad this year also.

On a side note I had a great conversation with the head of security at the base in regard to them running fisherman off from areas that are not buoyed off or marked do not enter or restricted. Not a favorable outcome.... and its going to get worse in the near future.

IMO it is definitely a fishing pressure, 3-4 years ago a person could go to Lake Worth during the middle of the week and never see another boat, even on some weekends there wouldnt be near as much traffic as there is now, word got out about the fishing, it was kinda a hidden secret, then the Honey Hole show with Clark and the 20+lb stringer him and Wilcox caught,& Media started adding it to there Cowtown division, It has been going down hill for the past couple of years, there has been some good sacks caught, last year had some nice sacks caught, but still think it has been going down due to the pressure it has received over the last few years, But i will agree with Buda on 1 thing, the fishing was better for me when the lake was 3-4 feet low....

I gotta go with Mike on this one. I just think that the group of guys that make up the core group of tournament anglers at Worth have really figured out the lake and the areas that hold fish and now the poundings those spots get on a constant basis do not allow the fish to replenish. As soon as they pull back on it they get caught. I think the weather earlier this year is only a small factor but I am like Mike in that just a few years ago you would hardly see another bass boat out there. The lake kicked out both size and numbers then as well. I am not bitching about the pressure at all or blaming anyone. Fact is its a fun lake to fish but it just has been beat up a lot recently. No harm no foul there as its a public lake. I notice a lot of the fish we catch now have cull ring holes in their mouths.

As for the base security guys I would think they have little to no jurisdiction as long as you are not in a buoyed area and not breaking any laws or causing any issues. I know in the years I have fished there I have never got a cross word from any of them. Most will make conversation and are very polite. I've never been asked to leave any area then again I have not fished that end of the lake much in the last year.

I'm hoping the bite gets better out there cause when its on its really on. thumb

Honestly,i think its the water levels weve had.Ever since last fall when we started getting all the good rains is when the bite started slowing down. Then we had a cold arse winter, that didnt help. And then we realy didnt have a very long spring,it seemed like it jumped cold to hot to faster than normal, then add to that more heavy rains.IMO the lake fishes best when its low. When people are backing there trailers off the ramp, tearing up lower units running the river.Thats when its good brotha.

Seen a many of trailers back off Casino, and a few L/U's trashed, and even a couple of boats,There was only a few knuckleheads that would run up there when it was that low, it sure was nice when you got up there, all to yourself.
