Not sure what lake you were on but that is exactly why I abandoned Lewisville this Summer, after I was hooked in the pants leg by RAT-L-TRAP from another boat.
The idiot ratio far exceeds the quality of fishing this time of year.

Did he try and weigh and measure you when he reeled you in?

I've been watching WFN.tv and every now and then they show commercials promoting other lakes. A couple of lakes in Colorado have rules for water skiiers:
- Ski boats must travel in a counter clock wise direction - Only certain parts of the lake are designated for water skiing.
Do you think there would be enough interest in doing something like this? If so, how would one go about starting something like this?

I believe I would have tied on the heaviest sinker I have and started throwing it out at the boat/jet skis. I may even tie a treble hook onto the line just so I could say they were driving where I was fishing

Well the fact is these people didnt care about wake boarding after dark or where they were. And the worst part was there was more people doing it on the main part of the lake. I was just worried about the one coming dead at my family... LOL Its crazy now that I think about it.

i am a big fisherman but i love to wakeboard... the issues are that the good places to wakeboard are usually the places you find fisherman.. coves places that are wind protected for smoother water. now i never go close to shore and i never cruise near fishermen plus i wakeboard in the middle of the day when its hot and fish in morning and evening when cooler. i dont think giving a designated place to fish and wakeboard is good for either party... i know i want to complain everytime one of the wakeboats fly by 50 feet from where im fishing and throw a big wake over my bass boat but they have right to the water too. i just wish that people understood the laws on boating and acted with common courtasey to all people enjoying the lake.

Really sorry for your experience and having your child frightened like that. Glad you got things normalized and no one was physically hurt.
I never fish lake Lewisville and have seen way too many similar incidents in lakes and salt water too..
My kayak(s) color (really bright yellow) was chosen specifically for visibility. I have DOT reflective tape on the hull and still have close calls a couple of times a year. At night, I consciously stick in and to structure if I don't have my hull lit up from the interior. I have very good nav lights, but I feel better with the protection of solid trees or bridge pilings. If I am crossing open water, I put a light on the interior of the hull and it looks like the worlds largest, ugliest, brightest Christmas ornament.
It sucks that I/we have to fish hiding from the drunks (and not all idiots are drunk), but I would rather not have the really bad incident.
I carry an Orion 12 ga. flare gun for emergency signals or in a severe case, getting someone's attention before they run you over. I video or photo any hull that presses me if possible. If the incident was intentional and belligerent, With the TX number,it takes 2 minutes the next day to have the name and address of the owner if needed. Folks are very different when you walk up to them on dry ground to discuss their actions. Much to my surprise I have met some otherwise decent folks after they sobered up. They always slow down and ask how the fish are biting when I see them the next time.
Sadly, game wardens cannot do much of anything from a video other than have a talk with the owner. Many are quite happy to do this if it is seriously dangerous.

Well I really be a believer in "ya can't fix stupid"! So, taking matters into yer own hands most likely will land you in a worse tightspot than the original offender!
I would have called the game warden and have him wait at the ramp. Big ticket for sking or wake boarding after sunset.
I watched game wardens launch at sunset over the 4th of July holiday on Lavon. They were specifically targeting drunks and folks who were still sking or wake boarding after sunset.
The wardens really take a dim view of safety violations when it come to drunkenness!

Why are you worried about wind when you have a boat that is designed to make a gigantic wake?

because you need calm water to cut through easier... the wake is half the equation if the water is choppy you can get enough speed into the wake to get any distance and height on the jump... this is part of the problem fisherman in general know nothing about wakeboarding and wakeboarders know nothing about fishing i happen to be a fisherman that was introduced to wakeboarding and love both. i will spend my entire day on the water if possible doing both. hell i set my juglines and wakeboard for a few hours then check them. i will never get in the way of someone fishing because i can go somewhere else but i cant go in the middle of the lake and wakeboard either because of traffic and choppy waters. we need to have more tolerance and understanding from both sides there will always be drunk stupid people on the lakes sometimes they are the fishermen and sometimes they are the recreational guys. we just need to learn to not be [censored] period.
