my dad and i decided to take the boat out for one of the last times before deer season prep had to start and everything seemed perfect we got out before the sun started to peak over the horizon, the water at this lake was the clearest ive ever seen (6-7ft) and we tryed everything and still got skunked. here is some of the things we tryed.....
1.went to the back of one of the creek arm tht had standing timber and used zara spooks in the trees.and i swim a white jig through the shorline grass. (nothing but a catfish)
2. got over the channel which was in about 18 foot of waeter and cranked over the hidrilla tht bordered the channel and threw plastic worms {ol monsters} but again nothin. (7:30-8:00)
3. we then ran across the lake to hit some deep docks with jigs and shallow crankbaits, had a few bites but i was either messin with trolin motor or somethin and could set the kook before they droped it. (8:00-9:00) nothin
$. by this time we were sizziling in the heat so went and cranked rip rap for a few minutes and gave up cause of the heat.

can someone tell me wth went wrong?

I'm not sure what lake you are referring to but I'm pretty sure you answered your own question when you said "went to the back of one of the creek arms". Gotta think deep right now. Main lake.

Take into account that this is just my opinion and experiences but the bass (most of them) will not be in the back of the creek in the summer. There will always be bass shallow but your best bet is out toward the main lake. Follow the bait.

Never fished the lake and not sure how big it is, but if you can find any sort of creek channels where the water drops 7-10 feet, I'd hit that. Definitely if the shallow end of the channel is 15-20 feet, then throw a trig powerworm or ol monster and drag it up the ledge. Tons of success on east tx lakes doing that, don't see why it wouldn't work up there.

Docks are never a bad idea but the summer is just plain tough. Summer on some lakes makes me want to just throw in the towel and start bowling. At least there is air conditioning at bowling alleys.

I would skip the docks, unless they are in 12-18 ft of water. I'm not sure what you meant by deep, but if they are 12 or deeper, they might be worth it. Throw a shaky head hags tornado or a weightless fluke and see what happens, if theres anything under there, I can't see them skipping the slow falling fluke, just make sure it sinks for a while. Good luck next outing and God Bless!
