It really does depend on the weight and bait size. I fish with 3 different flippin rods on the deck. My 807 Dobyns rod is a swimbait rod but it has such a beast of a backbone I use it rigged with a 2 oz MPW for my biggest baits and the baddest veggies. My favorite is a Lamiglas 807 BBSpecial. I pair it with the 1.5 oz MPW and a double wide beaver. It goes thru most veggies if I have a little trouble getting in I just pick up the Dobyns with the 2oz weight. My third is a Mark Tyler 8' Kistler flippin stick. A light tip rod that I will have a 5/0 Gammi and a smally beaver for the tules and out side edges. The Kistler and Lamiglas can be found for around a $125.00. Dobyns is a little more. All 8' rods. I don't recomend any shorter.

Any sugestions on a good replacement? Yup, CastAways Skeleton 7'6" Flippin Rod Heavy SKFFR76 or 7'3" Grass Master Braid SKFGHB73 depending upon your preference. Great rods, great company, USA/Texas made. You'll be pleased with them. If you don't care for the split grip look at the XP3 series, same rod, just different handle and reel seat. Two good places to get them from ... FishFreakOnline ... or ... CastAway direct ... Let me know if I can be of any help, your welcome to come use mine for a day or two as a test run, if you are ever in the area.

find one in the size and weight you like the best. also make sure that the butt doesn't have anything hard near or around it or it'll hurt your ribs on hooksets. i use a 2ig ultra strike xmb-755.5 7'6'' heavy.

It's like a telephone pole and works geat.

I was using a Hendrix 7'6" Heavy for awhile but went to a Demon 7' heavy and Falcon T7 7' heavy. So much lighter rods for all day use.

I pitch alot more than I flip and I can pitch further and with more accuracy with a shorter rod.I have several flipping rods 2 of them are 7ft 11 and I dont like using them for anything but frogs. My favorite is a Shimano Crucial 7ft 6.
