golden orb i do believe totally harmless but big and ugly very useful , will keep flies and mosquitos in check .

Garden spider. Won't bite unless you try to stick your hand in the web and pick her up. I used to catch grasshoppers and crickets to throw in the webs.

Wait until right before frost and you'll see how big those suckers can get.

They'll also leave an egg sack or two near the web. Looks like a large marble in a silk pouch.

Dude...why does this mean I'm not from MP? I just asked a question. I'm originally from Dyersburg, Tn, then moved to the Rio Grande Valley Texas, then moved to MP in 2008.

Yeah that's how I've always known em. Harmless really but are pretty fun to throw grasshoppers at.

We had em at the dove fields I hunted at as a kid they were everywhere. I used to run around with my daisy BB gun and shoot em. Cool lookin spiders.

Go down to Central America and it will be apparent why they are called Banana Spiders. The seem to congregate around banana groves.

+1 on the Banana Spider, only way I've ever known them. Dont get web on you it will take it all day to get it off, then you'll think its still on you the next day...LOL
