Was watching a Korda video this morning while being bored and picked up a good tip regarding baiting and casting.

I myself am guilty of baiting a pretty large area and then placing baits around it to find out where the fish are. Even this past weekend, I would catch fish off to the right, then off to the left, with my rod on the opposite side getting no action.

On the video, of course they use a marker float to start their baiting campaign, and then they make a few casts with just a weight to the float. When they make a cast to the right distance, they put a small piece of electrical tape on their line and look at the horizon to pick out a land mark.

That way when they cast, they cast to the land mark and stop the line at the electrical tape. I see this as an advantage because you can bait a much smaller area and put your bait right in the middle of it all day long.

Just wanted to share. I'm going to try this my next time out.

Nick -- Were they not actually 'clipped up' whilst spodding? Magic marker braid is usually tied to the line at the correct fishing distance - as 'lectric' tape wouldn't go through the eyes too easily, and would move on the wet line.
In any case, it's cool being able to cast back to the exact same spot every time. Good luck trying it out!!

Brid,

I watched the video again and they did use the clip on the spinning reel but he left the tape on the line the whole time. This was in the Korda State of the Art Big Hit Carp Fishing Part One video.

In the past I used to use a boat to bait up. I would set out 2 marker bouys and "draw" a line between them of bait by pouring straight out of the bucket. It was a LOT of bait but in a very small and focused area. My catch rate was MUCH better when doing this. Now this was for a few people to fish the same "swim" but the concept is the same. The more focused your baiting, the more likely the fish are to find your hookbait.

For now its not hard for me to hit the same spot. I throw my rods as hard as I can and for the most part end up in the same spot. I hardly ever fish my bait piles, cause them damn turtles love it. Once I get my euro set up it will change.

I think an RC bait boat is a disgrace. This is SPORT fishing after all. If you can't make the cast, you don't deserve the fish. Line clips though are super useful for hitting the same spot repeatedly.

It may be more than some people are comfortable with, but a bait boat is just another (expensive) tool that allows you to fish places that may not normally be accessible. Same principle as using 13-foot rods, long-cast spools, catapults, throwing sticks, and... a fishing boat.

I love when the fish are in the margins... its a much shorter fight but sooo much easier to bait in a tight spot banana

It has uses when the fish are not close enough for you to use other methods of baiting and you don't own a fishing boat.
